Off to Canterbury for a week soon, as well as having some down time we want to make the most of our week away. Any suggestions of places to visit bearing in mind we have 2 dogs ?
Want to visit Whitstable as I’m a bit partial to seafood

Sandwich is worth a visit, probably half a day. You can get there on the bus from Canterbury.

We use the park and ride regularly but last year we were in Canterbury and not a nice place to visit anymore guys on the street fully masked up dealing drugs in the day.

There are ghost tours that are on set days which dogs can go along on if that interests you? Lots of food and drink places that are dog friendly. No dogs in the Cathedral though. If you wanted to fill another day, like scousebird mentions a trip to quaint Sandwich and the maybe onto Deal? Where you can go along the pier and wander around Walmer Castle and Deal Castle. (Not sure about taking dogs) Dover Castle allows them though on leads. 👍

Whitstable is nice but parking is a nightmare. It's the first and only place we've ever been in the world, where parking a scooter was difficult and we even had to pay for it.

Thank you for the heads up 👍

A CL site a couple of miles from Canterbury called Cobbs Meadow

Walk the Crab & Winkle path to Whitstable and get the bus back. If you like walking, get the train to Chilham and walk back. If you like beer go to the New Inn on Havelock Street. For a shorter walk get the Triangle bus to Herne Bay, walk to Whitstable then bus back. Go to Walmer to look at the castle, walk the coast to Deal castle then bus back. Walk the coast from Margate to Ramsgate via Broadstairs or a portion of it, all accessible by bus.

Ramsgate is ok nice walk around harbour and biggest Wetherspoon by the beach outside on top is nice depending on weather
Folkestone nice walk down to harbour, if you have time from their buses to many places even Rye but its a long journey
we have seen more of Kent from Canterbury than ever before.

Excellent ideas thank you for that 😁😁

Ooo I like a harbour great idea thank you 😁😁

We had some fantastic fish and chips at the Lobster Shack in Whitstable, not too expensive to eat in either.
That is exactly on my list to do 😁

There's the Spitfire and Hurricane Memorial Museum at Manston Rd. CT12 5DF if that might be of interest, they have a cafe there as well if you would like some lunch. They also have a Spitfire flight simulator with an instructor but that needs booking in advance I think.

The Harbour Arm at Folkestone is great especially at weekends.bars, music etc plus the lovely harbour itself. Frequent buses to Folkestone town centre and short stroll down to the harbour or along the historic Leas.

I recall a no dogs sign in that Wetherspoon. Folkestone lovely and nice walk along the front. The buses in that part of Kent are great and you can get to most places from Canterbury. Faversham is pretty and plenty of beer as Shepherd Neame is brewed there. The Sun is very dog friendly and a dockside to wander around.

I agree found it very unpleasant last year

We would agree. We visit Canterbury as a local site. The site is great but Canterbury itself has definitely changed in character since the pandemic. Buses very convenient from the site and easy connections from bus station.

Don't think dogs are allowed in any Wetherspoons, not just this one.

If someone waits outside by the beach side there is a veranda you can sit on the front so dogs won’t be inside

Canterbury Punting Company, really lovely little boat ride on the Stour with bits of history of Canterbury from the guys
Did it before the pandemic and only traveled 100m or so that’s on the right walking from the bus station not done the one on the left

Ramsgate wartime tunnels are interesting. You probably need to book in advance, online. The Wetherspoon in the Victoria Pavilion is a terrific revival.

Nobody has mentioned the Hornby HQ Visitor Centre on the road from Ramsgate to Margate, small charge but the sort of place you say “I had one of those!”. Coffee shop.

The Tate gallery is only open at weekends, as I found out!
