My ongoing fridge problem had a little (possible) breakthrough today. The specialist who had a look at it in Spain for me has been in contact with Thetford and they say the non working on gas issue could be down to the Spiral in the Chimney. Apparently it is an 'important piece to retain heat and some refrigerators have been detected that did not have it due to a failure in the production chain'

Is there a relatively easy way of checking this without removing the fridge itself. I assume through the top vent but my recollection of looking down there s that its difficult to see anything. I have a Burstner Lyseo
.
Anyone had experience of this issue?

The chimney should be easily reached behind the bottom fridge vent. Its directly above the gas jet and holder. -- which is the usual problem

Oh, right. Seems odd then that the technician in Spain did not check this as he replaced the burner.

The spiral is held on a length of bent wire, suspended from the top of the chimney. Easy to access usually behind the top vent. But I have seen a few that vent through the roof and would necessitate removal of the fridge to check. Always a good idea to clean the chimney and the spiral when servicing the fridge, but seldom done by dealerships
