Turned on my Thetford N3142 fridge this morning (2015 Hymer TSL588) and after a brief flash of all indicators I was left with this red battery warning light. No red or green light in the main on off button and source selection button does not operate. The manual says the red warning is for the 6 AA batteries. However, our battery holder has always been empty and has no electrical contacts of any description. If you put 6 batteries in it they slide about, it is not an operational component on our fridge. I cannot select anything. I have checked and replaced the 20A Intern fuse in the EBL and the 5A fuse in the connector behind the lower fridge vent. Any ideas anyone?

Do you know what the leisure battery voltage is? If not is everything else working, such as water pump etc?

I'd check the low current power supply at the plug behind the lower vent. Batteries are only required as a short term solution yo power the controls if your 12v has failed. You can still run on gas.

The 6 AA battery back up power does not function on my fridge, it is not a fitted option. The battery holder has no electrical connections and hasn’t had batteries in it for 10 years. It’s a red herring, as in 10 years I have never seen this light illuminate. I cannot run anything, none of the selections function at all. The only thing I can do is turn it on and off at the button and after all lights display, it reverts to red battery warning and no selections are possible.

You may get an error code if you press the < > and square button between them at the same time , the Temp. setting section should show an amount of segments indicating which error code.
Also there is a fuse on the power control module , that is behind a cover , at the bottom of the rear of the fridge that can cause problems and can sometimes be found to have burned/poor connections.

I’d assume the battery power pack is there as it’s pcb power supply, and this is more for caravans. So the fact the warning light for this battery power pack is showing would indicate to me that the fridge is not receiving its low amp 12v power supply. The standard motorhome fridge has a high amp 12v power supply when engine running, a 240v power supply when connected the EHU, and a constant low amp 12v so you can control fridge functions.

Normally these power supplies can be checked via reming the external fridge grills, and using a multimeter or test light.

Checked the low power plug and the purple wire connection was all corroded and broken off. I didn’t have the correct spade connector for the plug and socket. Therefore I cut the blue wire to the plug and connected it directly via a Wago connector to the purple wire. Problem solved fridge is working correctly and auto changes to gas as required. Thanks for the suggestion as it has led to the solution. The red battery warning turns out not to have been a red herring, because there is no battery backup it was telling me that there was a 12v fault. Thanks
