Hi

I'm told my Thetford Cassette is missing a "Breather" - hence the hole ? Is this item called anything else ?

Also, on first rinse and clean the little round thing with the hole in it (technical terms :)) came out when being rinsed - is this part of the breather ?

If I order a new one are they easy to fit ?

Thanks
Jo

Do a search on Thetfords website and also on youtube.
There is service / repair info and videos on "how to"
Also you should find a parts list..(y)

Hi Tonka - had a look at Thetford stuff and whilst kinda have an idea I'm on the right track wanted to be sure.

I even dropped an email to Thetford which fell on totally deaf ears so I'm assuming they don't respond direct perhaps just through a dealer network?

Anyways should also have pointed out
I'm not that technical and if someone says "hey jo that's quite easy" I'd give it a go but much more than that I'd be struggling.

Thanks for the message though - it's good of you to reply.

Ta very much Jo

(y) The best fun is getting your hands inside the cassette
Their videos always have a nice new cut away model...

Do you have any pipework in the cassette housing that goes outside the van? Not sure that hole is thetford standard. Could just seal it up?

The bit that 'fell out' looks like a bit of perished wine bottle cork to me.
Maybe someone tried bunging up the hole previously.
Can't see any reason for a breather so may be a DIY mod.
If its around 20mm or 25mm diameter try an electrical store for a rubber blanking grommet and fit that in the hole.

looks exactly like an early sog modification. a tapered fitting with a hose attached would be pushed in there a plastic bung fitted for emptying the cassette. a replacement silicon bung can be bought from a lab sales place on ebay cheaply

a stainless steel nut and bolt, with 2 large washers and a neoprene seal would be a decent diy fix

You may be thinking "what the hell is a SOG"

It's an extraction system to remove the smell from the cassette and expel it to the great outdoors via a fan and charcoal filter.
The fan and filter are usually fitted to the cassette compartment door and a flexible and removable hose connects them to the cassette.
It all works automatically when the toilet flap is opened.

Go to This Page on the Thetord web site and open the PDF Spare Part List.
Scroll down to pages 19/20 and on the exploded diagram it is identified as 18 (venthole), into which part 19 (ventseal - part number 20339) fits.

A Google search for Thetford 20339 brings up several hits. Hopefully there will be one near you to avoid postage charges.

Thank you all.

Can't justify the new one - although I have to say there's leisure supplies were helpful when I asked them and also offered a replacement !

Thanks GJH - i will look closer at the exploded page.

I'm good on the SOG toilet, pappajohn. Ideally that would be better for me and I would have thought the SOG toilet was a possible reason but there was a blue chemical bottle in the compartment so discounted it.

Again, thank you.

Me again - I'm sorting my Hymer for a weekend jaunt.
I'm coming back to ordering the actual parts as per Thetford diagrams and going to do a temporary fix.
Nuts and bolts sound good but can't source the neoprene seal - any temporary alternatives until I have more time ? Thanks Jo

Which part number is that?
If it is 20339 there are several on eBay.
