Always learning.
Hi All,, another daft question from me,,I’m thinking about replacing the whole cassette on my Bessacarr, purely because it’s secondhand and more importantly, the better half would like it,,so any ideas, advice? Cheers.

Just the cassette?
New Thetford cassettes are available.
I believe 'refresh kits' are available including the seat.

The C260 and C250 are pretty much the same, so this video will be of help.

Try and do the seat when the plastics are warm ie, run the heating in the toilet or warm the area using a hair drier.

The plastic is more flexible when warm.

If you try it when the plastic is very cold, it is more likely to snap.

Keep the cassette, having a second can be extremely useful at times.

If you are not selling the old cassette, then use it for spares. We carry a spare reconditioned slider mechanism, through experience it is the part most prone to failing. We do spend about 8 months a year in the van.

If you want to give your existing cassette a good clean out, then pour in a good dollop of bio cloths washing liquid and then fill with warm water. Leave the water/ bio liquid in there for a good 24 hours giving it a good shake around every now and again. A lot of use use Lidl or Aldi cheap bio cloths washing liquid as an alternative to the more expensive cassette fluid as it works just as well.

If you need to take the lid of the cassette to check inside, then here's a video on how to.

It's also a good idea to carry a heavy duty plastic bag to keep the cassette in as you can then swap the full with the empty should you need to, saves unpleasant spillage that way.(y)

It's not a difficult job to strip down the cassette mechanism and completely rejuvenate. I've done ours a number of times. Sock the cassette with cheap vinegar and hot water. Leave for 24 hours, turning it around, every so often, so that all side get a soaking. Next day disassembled for manual cleaning. If done regularly it's an easy job. Much cheaper than buying a new one.

When my C250 bowl was looking tired & yellowish I replaced the inner bowl (it is separate to the outside shell) besides changing the seat. Easy job to do.
