Hey team
Tigger van is heading to Bournemouth, but would like to visit the new forest for the day.. any tips for a pvc day for picnic? Thanks team !

Anderwood picnic area.

As a general rule in New Forest, picnics will be fine - there are numerous car parks suited to daytime use of campervans and larger,. But BBQ, even gas, is not allowed, unless on a campsite, due to fire concerns.

Hatchet pond was one of our favourite spots. A little car park with ice cream van (careful of ice cream loving donkeys) and a larger one the other side of the pond with a few areas to tuck yourself.

Hatchet pond can get extremely busy , there are many other car parks more secluded and quiet , opp /near beaulieu rd station for one

Marvelous, thank you! We are after something a little secluded

That is good advice.
Taking note of the 'Do not feed the ponies' sign in a New Forest parking area I turned my back several times from one trying to lick my ice cream. I was relieved when it finally turned away from me but it kicked out a back leg, hitting me on the top of my thigh. I dropped like a stone and the ice cream splodged onto the dirty gravel whereupon the pony finished it off.

Top tip, get parked early. It gets very busy.

Ow 😣 Yes, they can be very insistent thanks to numpties ignoring all the signs not to tough or feed them 🙄 Having worked a few seasons on one of the NF sites, we were never shocked at peoples stupidity when dealing with (pretty much) wild animals. One of the verderers even told us of a family sitting their two year old on one of the ponies for a photo op!

Hi, If you are looking for somewhere really pretty but don't need toilets or showers take a look and Roundhills in the New Forest. They have fresh water, grey waste points, black waste and rubbish disposal points but that's it. You just turn up, register then find yourself a pitch. You can see a video of the site at:

Hi.
I think this is called " Pig Bush ". VERY deceiving at first glance,it is nice. If you park up and walk just a little way down through the trees, there is a super view from the bottom edge of the tree line.
Best place. Pass Setthorns campsite on you left.about 100/200 yds on your right car park " Horse shoe bottoms "Or something like that. Drive down the track, passing the first car parking area on your right to the bottom, turn right into parking area. You are looking over a little dip, while the day away there, watching forest ponies and cattle drifting through grazing, horse riders passing by and if you have a " Growler " take them for a walk across the dip,up the other side and do a circular tour.... MAGIC.
Lived down there for a while. Hatchet Pond. " Growler swimming" and ice cream for us. Pig Bush. Growler walking, coming back to the car one evening, turned and looked back, about 200x's away a pony was swishing its tail, the setting sun caught in amongst the hair and sent beautiful shades of red and brown colours you can only dream about. Last but not least." Horse shoe Bottom ? ( Near Setthorns.
Nautical flavour ? Head for " Lepe Beach ".TOP CAR PARK. Sit out on your chairs or the grass and enjoy. Walk ? Walk from the car park with the sea on your right, you will come to an old site, where they constucted Mulberry harbours buring the war.
We have lived all over, but New Forest was up there with the best.
ENJOY.

Lovely spots but we’re meant not to let our dogs swim in Hatchet Pond which is the home of some pretty rare wildlife.

The verderers have spoken ?
Yep...taken away the toilet and working hard to prevent people visiting , it would appear. They are doing all in their power to restrict anything which affects the rights of those running livestock. There was a plan to increase tree planting which they objected to because it could impact grazing....
