To be honest, I'm amazed it lasted as long as it did.

Most European carriers stopped sleeping on the vehicle decks in the last century.

I would presume the insurance costs had simply become too much, and RoRo regulations being actually enforced.

Bloody sad.
We have driven down via Austria, Slovenia,
and Montenegro but it’s a bit of a drag.

I was a bit sceptical about the report.

I phoned Dale at ViaMare, who many of us use to book Adriatic ferries.

Sadly he confirmed that he has had the same information on an e-mail.

He does not yet know what ANEK/Superfast will offer for MHs, maybe more info at end of month.

That's a nightmare as of you have more than 2 dogs you can't get a cabin .

So last year I was on the deck with 3 dogs for 9 hours, sat outside on a freezing deck . Unable to even go to the toilet.

So now I have 4 dogs that route is no good . Looks like I'll be going via Bulgaria in the future

Was wondering about Minoan and their 'camping all inclusive' package and it looks like that maybe going the same way too, although it does say 'temporarily suspended'....

We can not get fully comp ins for that route, otherwise we would consider that.
The shortest/fastest route is:
Hook of Holland/Germany/Austria
Slovenia/Croatia/Serbia
North Macedonia/Greece (Athens)
(2,850km)
(Not sure I fancy Serbia)

The second Shortest/fastest route is
Hook of Holland/Germany/Austria
Hungary/Romania/Bulgaria/Greece (Athens)
(3,100km)
(Which I think would be my prefered route)

The longest/slowest route is
Calais/Belgium/Germany
Austria/Slovenia/Croatia
Montenegro/Albania
Greece (Athens)
(3,200km)
Possibly the most scenic route, but with possible issues with Albania.
I might use this for the way back

There is of course the Bari/Patras ferry, but it's 16hrs and no pets allowed.

(or Austria/Hungary

But unless you get a ferry from the south coast to the hook of Holland you have to add the distance to drive from there.

Brains why not Serbia?

But unless you get a ferry from the south coast to the hook of Holland you have to add the distance to drive from there.
Harwich is closer to the M25 than Folkestone or Dover.

Brighton/Dover vs Brighton/Harwich = less than 20 miles difference

But the real saving on time/distance us made on the other side.
If you got out of bed at 7am
From Hook of Holland you can be in Germany in time for a late breakfast.
From Calais you may make Germany in time for a late lunch, and you are still be half a day behind.

Not the queues but the extortion of money from what I've read
I've heard similar tales from camping next to others in Croatia.

The queues can be several hours long, they check all your papers, and 'find' one 'wrong' or 'missing' for which you have to pay a 'fine' (cash only)

That said I've travelled in other dodgy places and always kept either a €50 note in my passport or cartons of 200 cigarettes available as a 'reward' which usually works wonders.

But mainly the Serbians dont like us. (Western Europeans of any country, but particularly the Germans)
Also the country is not geared up for tourists, its a place you drive through as fast as possible
(expecting to be pulled for the 'broken' tail light at any moment)

Even for an EU Citizen and an EU Resident? Or is it one long queue for everyone?
Serbia is not in the EU and unlikely to join the EU any time soon.

Most Serbians do not like the EU
They see it as 'Greater Germany'
You might be better off being British, but they don't like us much either, as the UK backs Kosovo.

Long queues and cash payments for 'documents'.

Friend got pulled in Canaries many years ago . Fined , told them he had no cash . Basically told him to F off .
Thinking that might not work on Serbia?
