The best time to arrive

Just launched into France on the way to Spain/Portugal - with the intention of mostly ‘winging it’ for overnights. (We have made a campsite booking in northern Spain across Easter on the basis that it could be busy). We’re finding it surprisingly busy even in rural Normandy. What’s the general opinion on the best time of the day to plan to arrive (not pre-booked) at an Aire?

We try to get there late morning / early afternoon which ties in with quite a few late riser leavers and always seems to bag us a place ok, and it still leaves time for some sightseeing

I would say between 2.30 and 4pm to have a good chance of a place on a busy aire.

We would aim for mid-afternoon so time for a walk around & a little drinkie if there's a bar or café to go to.
