Thankfully, Aldi are selling nice dates all year around and Lidl currently have the gorgeous Medjool dates in stock in their middle east promotion.
Sticky toffee pudding was made yesterday !

Yes its true we only had "Eatme" Dates at Christmas, not seen those boxes for a few years now.
Can you not buy them fresh on the vine at the markets?, I remember many years ago someone coming back from their hols giving me a branch of them.(y) I love the way they melt into a lamb Tagine sweetening the whole dish and along with the spices making it a favourite dish.
The other thing that I am surprised no one has mentioned during their Spanish/Moroccan/Greek travels is the number of olives served up as a side dish or cooked into many meals I have not seen many of you have a dish without them, along with the oil bread of course. I am sure that not many of us before travelling gave an olive a second thought, except at Cheese & wine or summer buffets. They are so expensive here in The UK especially the Greek ones, I used to hate them in my younger years, then started on the Black ones on Pizza's, working my way through the stuffed ones right up to the extra large Green ones.
I always thought it strange that Olive Oil is good for you, however whole olives have high cholesterol! It never worries me as I normally only have a few a month here in The UK, but its a whole different story when you hit the bars & restaurants over there.
PS: stay over there as long as you can guys, it was down to minus 2C here in Surrey last night, The Van was frozen white shimmering in the street light on the drive.🥶

Is that correct, oops, I have a large jar from Lidls that I have been munching on, and I am trying to convince the doctor I do not need to go on statins!!!

No that's wrong! Olives are really good for you.

"Olives are low in cholesterol and a good source of dietary fiber, which the body needs for good gut health. They are also rich in iron and copper"

Eat more when at home as they actually help lower cholesterol. Think you got it backwards. They are fairly high in fat as you would expect being something that can make oil but it's the good fat and everything else they are made up of mean they are incredibly good for you especially eaten whole.

Yes, thank you, I have just been doing my own search online, and most sites say that whole olives are either very low in cholesterol, or 0%.

I will continue to munch them in moderation (because of the salt content)! (y)

We always have dates in the house. Packets from sainsburys, used by Ian if his sugar drops, but also loose from the market.
Date bread, yes, also with bananas.

Yuk, remember them from Christmases as a kid. How could they be both dry and sticky ? Horrible papery skin too !
I was definitely more interested in making something from the empty box.
Not keen on figs either, love a Kalamata olive though, but not the small black Spanish olives, their taste reminds me of Germoline
