We recently spent a couple of weeks in the area of the Thames Path, which offers flat, but interesting walking. We used 4 campsites and public transport (bus pass) to take us to most of our start points, walking back on the Thames Path
1. Caravan and Camping Club Site on outskirts of Oxford
Caught the service bus to Abingdon and walked the 9 miles back into Oxford
2. Bridge Villa Site at Wallingford
Caught the service bus to Dorchester and walked the 6 miles down to Wallingford
Caught the service bus to Goring and walked the 8 miles back to Wallingford
3. Caravan Club Site at Henley (non believers could use the Swiss Farm camp site next door)
Caught the service bus to Marlow and walked the 8.5 miles Bach to Henley
4. Amerden Campsite at Dorney Reach
Walked into Maidenhead and caught the boat to Windsor and walked back to the campsite, about 8 miles in total
We picked our starting points as 8/9 miles is about our limit, but other towns and start points could be used. Sometimes the path does leave the river but generally it is flat and interesting, with a good variety of wildlife
