Tesco mobile have scrapped roaming charges in 31 European countries for the period 23 May to 3 September 2016

http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2016-04/26/tesco-mobile-scrap-eu-roaming-charges

It is like Three's "Feel at home" so you can use your allowance.

Guess which mobile network we're with !!!

:dance2:
Many thanks. We leave the UK on 8 May so I need to check if a sim card bought before we leave will benefit from the new charges once they come in. A card which will work in Slovenia and Croatia (which I assume it will from the blurb) will be very convenient although a local card will possibly be cheaper.

Having checked the Tesco mobile website it only applies to contracts and not pay as you go.

Shame we only go away October to March! Stick to '3' for the minute.

We're on contract so "we're okay Jack"! :D

We pay £15.00 a month in total for 2 x Motorola Moto E phones each with 400 mins (250 mins + extra 150 mins for having 2 phones with them), 5000 texts and 500mb data.

Apparently we can tether too! (y)

If your tariff has a data allowance included, you can use your device as a personal hotspot at no extra cost. If you don't have a data allowance, or you go over your data allowance, you’ll be charged our standard rates.

500 meg of data isn't very much - you will eat that very quickly so beware of extra charges
I know, I've already got some '3' data sims anyway, but might as well use the 'free' stuff first! :)

Just asked the question on there online chat and roaming tariff is same on payg

EE have just upped the data allowance for roaming to 500mb for £4 midnight to midnight. If you use 500 they offer you another 500 for another £4

I thought it was too good to be true!
tesco strike again with misleading information.
although its the same scheme on contract or PAYG
the is a charge of +4p/min calling +1p/text and 4p/mb data
IRRESPECTIVE of how much is included in your package.
so hows that not a roaming charge?

Are you looking at the charges for the present time? I couldn't find anything on their website yet about the removing of roaming charges from 23 May at all, not even on their contract phones, so I'm just having a chat with them now to clarify and will report back!

What is pornhub. Can you tell us all about it, what it does etc. I have been looking into the possibility of raising some cash through the the sale/ pledge of unwanted items
Search Russian aunt and nephew

Right, Tesco chat over.

To clarify:
  • This applies to both contract and PAYG
  • The 'no roaming charges' come into effect for the period 23 May to 3 September 2016 inclusive
  • There are no extra charges during this time (eg no extra 4p min for calls etc) unless you go over your monthly allowance (or use up all your PAYG credit - same as if you were in the UK)
  • There is no time limit on how long you can use it abroad - you can use it for the whole period if you wish (not restricted to 2 months as '3' is)
  • There is no 'allowance' limit - you can use it all in the EU during this period
  • The website will be updated shortly to show the 'free' period details

The website hasn't yet been updated with the details of the free roaming period but will be very shortly I'm told, so what you are reading IS the present situation, not the 'free' period situation - see my post above for details.

I spent an hour on online chat with Tesco and the guy was adamant that the charges will be in force. If u read the press release there is one line that says +4p calls +1p text and I was told +4p MB
So if you had a 4GB data package which cost u 15 for the month to use in the uk and u used it all in Europe it would cost another £150
In fact I was so passed off by there misleading information that I reported them to advertising standard

Which press release?

I've just found this on their website:

It clearly states that the charges are only applicable if you go outside your allowance.

The only bit which specifically gives figures is the below which refers to you calling numbers in the EU from the UK, not calling from the EU to the UK:

Calls and texts to EU numbers [ie from the UK] will cost 4p a min and 1p a text.

Did you keep an email copy of your chat? If so, it would be good to see exactly what was asked and replied to as I actually chatted to 2 different people today just to be sure and both confirmed what I stated previously. The charges are ONLY applicable if you go outside your allowance.

Denise went into tesco mobile shop yesterday and they said they were having a meeting on the 10th may But didn't know anything at the moment

3 are only for 2 months abroad! Joe

just back from 5 months away in Hong Kong /New Zealand and the US and had no problem with using 3 plus data for the whole trip,

I currently use o2 at £1.99 each day you use it with unlimited data allowance.
Tesco offer looks good.

I'm still using one of Tescos older plans that give me a pile of free calls for a month whenever I top up. Wonder if this will apply too, be interesting to see when we go off to Scandinavia In June.
Free calls from Sweden - great!

Right, ref Tesco PAYG mobile ... there is some debate as to whether there are extra charges for this or not when used in the EU - I've emailed Tesco's PR section for clarification so will report back when I get a response.

It's the EU that are making the phone providers put their prices down

Yes, but they're not making them do it until next year, for some reason Tesco are doing it early ... not complaining though! :)
