Anyone had any issues with their pitch being taken by someone else on return from a day out in your motorhone/campervan?
Is it wise to leave something to say its your pitch? (Have seen signs you can purchase to say the pitch is reserved for your vehicle reg)... or am I worrying too much?

I've wondered about this even though I've never encountered an issue.

I often leave the EHU lead, unplugged, as a marker which is as much for convenience to me.

I inherited a spare EHU lead so its loss would not be a bother.

Leaving something to show that a pitch is occupied is what both big National Clubs recommend, usually, if I remember correctly, in welcome documents they give you.
Like others, I often leave my hook up cable, but as these can be stolen, perhaps it's better to make/buy a dedicated sign?

I've left allsorts - a chair or a table etc. It depends what sort of campsite you are at. If it's a organised club campsite then the staff usually take you to your assigned pitch so no one else should go there anyway.

I assume we are talking about campsites, as pitches cannot be saved on an aire.
We just have a sign though will often leave chairs table etc on the pitch, though I suppose there is a possibility of theft especially if somewhere iffy like the UK.

Yes I see what you mean.
Abroad, if you're coming back to Britain, you might have more in your vehicle storage, not less? 🤔
Damn this iffy UK!

I leave the wife on the pitch and go out for the day. 😂👍

IF I was wife, while you were away, I would move onto the pitch of the biggest guy near your location, and wait for you to come back! ( Hopefully before the other Guy) 😄

we have a sign that says "Motor Caravan Using This Pitch" mounted on a bit of plywood with a spike ..

bought from the CAMC years ago but as we seldom use sites and you can't save pitch on an aire (other than when you move off to dump and fill with water at the bourne) it's rarely been needed

The CAMC have a new one which says " Sorry, I'm pitched here"

ebay also sell them

If we had to move off a spot on an Aire I would stand on it with dog.
On a campsite in UK probably wouldn’t happen as we would have car with us and only reason van would move is if we had to go out to fill LPG.
We did leave a CL once, completely for the day with both vehicles, left a pallet we had been using, and our No. plate sign, when we got back found it all in the hedge but no one on site anywhere!

Can't think of any site I'd want to spend more than a couple of days at in one go, so much choice on the mainland nothing to do at UK sites so move on regularly either way, never thought of it as a problem if you arrive full clean, empty grey/black

You say that about Aires,
But Trouble with a some aire the facility are out side the site so you have to go out the barrier. I would definitely leave something on pitch, normally wife and dog
If you leave a pitch on an aire for any reason it is no longer your spot and anyone can take it. We've seen numerous times when MHers have left stuff on a pitch on full aires and gone off, not just to a dump point next door, but for shopping, a tootle our for the day etc and this has prevented us from stopping there or we've had to take a difficult or tight spot. Now if we see that we'd move their stuff and use the spot.

If you want the assurance of a guaranteed pitch you should go on a campsite.

This has just reminded me of something that happened the other day, proper 'Spanish' aire with marked spots, free services there too.

A Dutch couple were sat out and a spot was vacated a few along from them, they immediately got up and moved their chairs to the spot and the wife sat on hers in the middle of it.

A Morello MH drove on the aire shortly after and as this was the only pitch available he proceeded to reverse in ... and kept going! 😳He obviously knew she was there so did it very slowly but she soon got the message to shift or be squished. 😄

The spot wasn't for the Dutch couple as they had made no attempt to move their MH so it must've been for someone else who they were expecting at some point but as the aire is very popular and full most of the time people often have to queue to get on so reserving a spot was well out of order, first in the queue has first dibs.

On the rare occasions we've used campsites we use a MH sign we got many years ago FOC from MMM mag I think, instead of our reg number we had Bucknell's Dog House on it. 😄

Leave a table &chair on the pitch. Padlock together for extra security.

With apologies to Andre Previn and Eric Morecambe it was the wrong answer to the right question. :shake:

A photographer friend of mine printed a picture of my motorhome, showing numberplate onto a 8x10" sheet of aluminium which we made into a fold flat pitch marker. Next year we changed the van.🙄
I'm sure the new owner appreciate it. 😄

We have a home made sign with reg number on, laminated, which we peg to a chair if going out. Sometimes leave electric cable if on ehu. Even if only on a site for a few days we are likely to go out in the van.

You could always buy a caravan and have little day trips out in your car, safe in the knowledge that your rented bit of gravel isn't being abused by someone else!
