Sprinter
Hi everyone, sorry if this has been covered a million times. I tried a search first.

We have a converted minibus, a LWB Sprinter that is a 5t BUS that still has a tacho.

Can someone please tell me what we need to do to reclassify the vehicle so that we don't need a tacho?

I've had a good search on the internet but as is often the case the answers seem to lead to other problems!

Cheers Jason

Motor Caravans ( van with windows ) do not require tachos..
So surely regardless of what class it is, once re registered as Motor Caravan..tacho can be removed!

Depends on where you are driving.

In the UK a minibus does not need a tacho.
But if it does have a tacho, then it must be working for the MoT.
It does not need to be operational driving in the UK.

In the EU all minibuses need a tacho and it needs to be operational at all times.
Which means you need a drivers card, and you need to know how to use and maintain a tacho.
(Which is not as easy as it sounds).
Also a loaded minibus in most of the EU needs a driver with a PSV licence.

Therefore you need to re-register your van as something other than a minibus if you have 9 seats or less and intend on driving in the EU.

Thanks for the replies.

So the plot thickens. The MOT says N1 which Google says is for 3.5t...

What mot cert do you have , as it looks from info you have posted it should have class 5 , which if you have changed the interior it wont pass,

But chances are it will never get reclassified as a motorcaravan.
