We’re currently ensconced in the Algarve Motorhome Park in Tavira and have been for a couple of weeks now. In all that time, I’ve yet to see another Brit van sporting a Funster badge and none of the folks I’ve spoken with have been members. What’s happening? 🤷‍♂️

We’ll be here another week (before moving on to Quarteira) so if any Funsters are planning on visiting give us a shout before we finally up sticks and leave.

Apart from three days when we had torrential rain, the weather has been fantastic.

C’mon down folks!

We tried to get on that site last month but no spaces due to those that pitch up for weeks on end. We have to rough it on the dust bowl of a car park by the roundabout opposite the Grand Plaza shopping centre. 😏😊

Was chatting to the young girl who does an excellent job of managing the comings and goings and she was saying that in the summer she has 50+ vans a day leaving/arriving but in winter that reduces to between 10 and 15 per day.

Provided you turn up first thing in the morning (easy if you've parked up in the dust bowl 😎) you’ll pretty much always get on.👍

They do have a quite time also, can not remember the dates!
The offer was stay three nights get the forth free, i think.
I did ask when stayed, as we had booked were for 3 nights, but if the fourth was free!
But it was in April / May ???
Also it does very poorly if you want shade, in the summer.
Overall we liked it.

Their website states that there is no pre-booking and that they show the available places live on their website and after 4 days of regularly checking their website through the day it never showed any pitches being available.
I for one am not that desperate to keep rocking up each morning on the off chance that a pitch will become available.

After the last 7 weeks of touring Spain and Portugal, we could only count a dozen or so Brit registered vans none of which bore a Funster sticker.
Probably the the best place to go Funster hunting is Beni. ;)

My guess is that they only update the website AFTER they have admitted those who turn up first thing in the morning; hence it invariably showing zero available places. That, or you’re not checking the availability early enough in the day.

I doubt that you’d have to rock up more than once but if it doesn’t appeal, it doesn’t appeal.

Just stayed on the site at Tavira. 15euro a night and all facilities, large pitches, albeit a little tired but infinitely better than crammed into a car park down the road for about the same money.

What size is your pitch?

Any Mozzies, when we were there, by 9.00pm got to be inside.

Are you going to be staying at the Algarve Motorhome Park Falésia, which is their other site, when we went there, was only for a week, it was so good three weeks later we left, only because we were meeting friends else where, do check out the Restaurante Roulotte do Sr. António across the road, well worth it and so tasty, oh I will be dreaming of the fish tonight, anyway hope you have a great time.

Spoke we 3 other Brit van drivers on this site near Granada.
Non had heard of MHF, 1 showed interest 1 said he keeps well away from forums and 1 said he was on a another forum and that was enough.

We have had a couple of bites but haven’t actually seen, or heard, the little blighters. However, we’re usually indoors by about 6:30pm.

We have stayed there a few times in the past but aren’t going to bother this trip. 👍

We arrived on the 6-8 March, first night was torrential Rain, could only get parked facing the Railway after two attempts on smaller pitches with overhanging trees, we forgot that the clocks went back to British time so when we turned up there were 4 places (Lucky) parked next to a guy who said he’d been there for something like 8 months of the year.

A couple of days was enough for us, to many large coach parties, American voices everywhere and being woken by the train at 05:30 one morning literally 5 ft away from the van.
Was amazed at the Amount of French vans on the site, Guy next to us mentioned something about they normally go to Morocco but something has changed with insurance and they are staying this side of the water🤷‍♀️

If you saw a Morelo facing the railway then that was us, no fun sticker on the van though

That’s a shame. I had to fly back to the UK on 7 Mar for a few days so missed you (thankfully I missed the worst of the rain but did get a little damp dashing to my taxi).

The number of French vans has certainly increased over the last couple of years. Out of curiosity one day I decided to walk around the site to count the number of French vans; I counted 41 vans in what Im told is a 120 pitch site.

It’s a nice wee town and will be better once all the roads are put back down, looked like they were installing new water mains or similar.

Were you parked down facing the road?

Yes, an end of row with the side of the van facing the road, near the service point.👍

My wife stayed with the van while I went back to the UK.

We found the majority of van in Portugal were French with just a smattering of Dutch and German. We tour around Portugal to just below Porto before the bad weather arrived and we headed across to Zaragoza for a bit of sun and warmth.

We stopped on the aire in Tavira for 3 weeks again this year. Lovely site with great staff.

I felt a bit sorry for the staff as they had to deal with the sudden death of a Dutch National in his van.

Agree, loads of French vans but they seemed friendly enough.

It’s a nice enough site if a little car parkie type of a place and we stayed there in Nov ‘23 for a weekend or so. The ferry ride down the river from the town wharf culminates in a very nice beach… 🏖️

We were there for Xmas and new year, stayed for 3 weeks as every were els was full, nice site our French neighbour had been there since October and was leaving in April, every morning he’d tell me haw cold it was in the Alsace area were he was from😂😂

Just checked our pitch size; 7m x 9m, plenty big enough for our 8.5m van.👍

Stayed at the Algarve motorhome park in May 2023 second row back from the front next to the washing area, we had no complaints in our 31' RV. Got both slides out as well. Paid for 3 nights and got four as well.

We have 5 uk vans around us here in Pomarao they are all from motorhomer.com
Most I have seen in two months in Portugal 🇵🇹

Also going to Benidorm next week anyone no a good stop over about 5 hours from Spain Portugal border?
