Going to clean the fresh water tank and Truma boiler for the first time (using a citric acid). I know this can pose problems for the stainless element in the Truma unit if left in too long so only plan on letting it soak for four or five hours. My questions are: Do I need to heat the mix in the boiler or just draw it through using the taps until I know the boiler is full? Also, when is the best time to do this: just before laying up for winter or just as she comes out of hibernation?

Heated works better, boost to 65c.
Allow to stand for a couple of hours at least.
Fill fresh water tank, enough to drain the boiler off.
Pump the citric mix into waste tank. Run fresh water through All the taps, and collect in a bowl so not diluting the mix in the waste tank. Let the mix sit in the waste tank overnight. Then take the van out for a run, sloshing the mix around the waste tank. Drain off the waste tank, flush the waste tank with fresh water, and the open/close valve.Job done.
I do this in the spring, it'll clean all your pipe runs as well.
For winter storage, empty all the tanks, leave all the taps open, blow some air through the pipe runs to express any residual water.
Mike.
