Hi
I'm looking for information on how I can take our dog on holiday with us to europe pos heading to Germany.
Cn anyone advise on costs and what we need
Thanks

Dog microchipped followed by rabies jabs (2 needed I think)
Animal Health Certificate needs to be obtained from a vet - there are some who do this near to chanel ports.
AHC is valid for only 10 days prior to you travelling and lasts for 4 months.
you'll also needd to get your dog wormed at an EU vet prior to your return 24 to 96 hrs before return from memory

You need a rabies jab, then an animal health certificate. The certificate must be issued within 10 days of travel outward and 4 months of the return date. Best to use a specialist AHC issuer as they will be cheaper and less likely to make a mistake. I have booked Pas Pets in Havant, but they have several branches. Before returning your dog will need to be wormed within 5 days

The specialist AHC providers charge about £99
Vets have been known to charge over £200
Microchipping and rabies will be as your vet charges.
If your dog already has a microchip and rabies you can send that info over to the AHC provider or get your vet to send it

A search here will give more info
And you’ll find discussions on on vets in France for the worming tablet
That’s needs planning on your way home because it needs sound at least 24 hours before you cross
But it’s basically a consultation fee - cheapest we paid was 15 euros dearest 80!!!
Most French vets on thexway up to Calais are familiar with what’s needed for AHC but worth asking if they’ve done it
You’ll also find discussion on acquiring a European pet passport which dies away with this ridiculous AHC system!!

France is difficult fir orssports but not impossible
You’ll probably be passing fairly close to a Belgian vet members use successfully

Single rabies sufficient, the only reason 2nd ever needed is if you have to prove antibody titre and its too low after 1st. The UK is exempt from this.

I used Abbywell at Dover last year for £99, this got me across the channel and I got a an EU passport in Portugal for 30 euros so no more rip off AHC charges.

As above.
Get 3 year Rabies jab in UK.
Get an EU pet passport will save you a lot of money etc in the long term.
An AHC is only for one visit, if you go again you will need another AHC!
Once you have a pet passport keep it away from a UK vet, all Rabies info-booster etc must be done in EU.

If 1 year rabies jab is cheaper go for that as it's likely you would need a 2nd one for the PP so get a 3 year one on that.

Garry63, if this is your second time of asking as minxy says is there something you’re particularly concerned about?

As others have said your dog needs to firstly be microchipped, full rabies jabbed at least 21 days before you leave the UK and have an AHC issued not more than 10 days before you travel, it only covers one trip. Vets prices vary massively so shop around. You don’t necessarily need to use your own vet. Our vet quoted £250, one an hour away in Otley charges £87.
As already said your dog needs to be wormed by a vet and the AHC stamped 120-24 hours before return and prices for that differ quite a bit depending on the vet you use.
Done this twice now. This year we are planning to get an EU pet passport and there’s threads on here covering that.

Is that the dales vet group?

If so they are a proper old school vet and brilliant, we don’t even live in Otley but we travel to get seen there.

Belgium is easiest option for pet passport and reasonable for price, loads of info on here about it

It is The Dales. Lovely vet and if it were nearer we’d make it our vet’s practice.
We are heading for France/ Spain. I’ve heard Petsworld at La Zenia is a good place to use for the Eu passport so will try get an appointment there.
