Taking dogs into Morocco

Has anyone any advice about taking a dog with us into Morocco? We are well travelled in Europe; the dog has an EU passport, up-to-date rabies jab etc. but just a bit concerned about possible problems with feral dogs. Our dog is a working collie and normally lives / sleeps outside 24/7 (under our MH at night when we are away).

You mention up-to-date rabies but just to confirm: you do know that you will need a titre test done so that you can re-enter the EU from Morocco?

Yep, aware of the test to bring Sam back into the UK. Really wanted feedback about stray dogs - are they a nuisance / cause any problems if you have your dog out walking?

I think the best thing is to take a look at our thread - I’ll find the exact place.

But what you do need is a pet passport and a titre test, and then to get Spanish’s vet’s certificate of health which you take to PIF in the port to get an export certificate.

Ours wasn’t checked on re-entry, and a few people have taken that to mean we dien’t need it. I totally disagree - just because the spot check didn’t pick up on us, or because we were already marked as having the export certificate so didn’t need checking - doesn’t mean you couldn’t get stopped, and the downside is far worse than the hassle of getting these extra docs.

Sorry I can't offer any help with that aspect as Morocco is not a country I have ever wanted to visit. However as part of my obsession with Pet Passports I do come across information concerning titre tests. An issue that has been cropping up with increasing regularity lately is that of the Spanish authorities refusing to accept titre tests unless the blood has actually been drawn and tested in the EU, not just at an EU-approved lab. This would seem to contradict actual EU requirements but it is something to be aware of. The link below is to a motorhoming blog that provides very useful information on this matter:

Also lots in that thread about street dogs but TLDR: There are a lot of them and it’s sometimes a little hard to see. Sometimes they were a pain but Flynn never really seemed that worried by them. On the massive plus side, some of them were really friendly and tagged along on walks with us.

When they get too much, they know that humans picking up a stone means trouble - it’s not a great feeling to do it but you just have to bend over and pretend to pick one up not actually throw the stone. Street dogs are especially clever

It's an emotive subject.

I wouldnt let my dog ( I haven't got one) sleep under my van out there knowing just how many feral dogs wake up when it goes dark.( Not to mention scorpions)

We are taking our dogs to Morocco in Jan '25 too. Both have Portuguese passports. We will stay at El Rocio as there is a vets 20 mins away. They will do the titre tests for us and whilst we await the certificate (however long that takes) we will explore the parts of the Algarve that we missed on our last visit. Once we have the certificate we will meander down the Coast of Light to Algeciras, get tickets & money, visit the PIF and hopefully get our "export" certificate.
