HI all thinking of touring Europe next year for few weeks and want to take dog
Crossing channel and heading for Germany.
Never taken dog before so need advice on what we need to do
Thanks garry

We’ve taken our dog abroad for the last 14y, at least 21 days before travel the dog will need a rabies’s injection ( covers dog for between 1-3 y ) then arrange a AHC ( animal health certificate) no more than 10 days before travel, it can be with your vet check what they charge as some can be expensive but depending on your crossing there are vets who will supply one for around £100, just booked one for our new dog with pet pass Havant Portsmouth, our vet (who charges £265 for AHC) has sent them all the dogs information and will pick it up before we sail, then when abroad we’ll secure a pet passport for her,

There are more branches of passpets now so you may find one local to you. They charge £99 for the AHC. Of course the tunnel is easiest as you stay with dog in the MH but, as it is now more expensive, we went P&O Dover Calais in September and booked the dog lounge which was great. The dog checks were done in MH together with our passports. It is worth checking your dog’s chip at your own vets before you go as it can be nervewracking passing the reader over the neck and not finding it for 2 or 3 goes.
