December 14th 2017

Following on from the Towtal saga (see other review), with refund in hand we decide to contact TAF on the recommendation of a fellow funster..... We tell them about our saga with Towtal and they sympathise, seem to know what the problem was and give us confidence in the fact that they have rectified Towtal's work on many occasions.
They take a deposit and the work is booked in for early January 2018. They will be modifying the system already fitted and supplying a new A frame.

Early January arrives, we are called the day before we are due to take the car in. There is a part delay and they will give us a call next week.
Next week arrives and no call. We call them. We call again and again. Finally the call is answered and we are given another date.
The date arrives and is cancelled again and again, due to staff shortages/staff on a bender after birthday drinks!
We are advised that we will be called and, you've guessed it, no call.

So.....we call again, with the call on constant redial because nobody answers the bloody phone! The owner's wife then informs us that she is answering the phone from her hospital bed and gives us more excuses. We tell her we are sorry to hear that she is poorly but we do want to get this A frame fitted.
Lisa, being a skeptic says that as we have 1hr 30 mins to waste that we should take a drive down and see how busy these people really are. We are greeted by a woman of which Lisa asks her name......and, you've guessed it......it's the same woman that was just speaking to us from her hospital bed = Miraculous recovery followed by the token "Ouch" as she moved, just for effect!!!

Yet another date is arranged and by this time, we're thinking we are sorted - FINALLY.

We get the car in....we're getting excited now, it's really gonna happen......and then, the guy asks what measurements I had given his wife. I confirm the measurements, centre to centre, which is what she asks for. He's happy for a moment and then says that he didn't want centre to centre measurements. Only inner or outer measurements....so a new A frame had to be made! Another date was arranged and I had paid the balance at the wife's request, before the bank closed (and before the incorrect measurements were discovered)

The day before the day of fitting, it snows heavily......so we are not surprised that we get a call to say that it is cancelled as they can't drive into the workshop.
We accept this and we are told that when the snow has cleared, they will be in touch.
And we wait, and wait.....so we call and call......13 times later, we decide to drive down again.

We are greeted by the owner, who is a little surprised to see us, but says "your A frame has been ready for a week, pull the car in and I'll fit it now)
Whilst he's fitting it, we have a little chat about how is wife is a nightmare to answer the phone.....holding back on true feelings until the job is complete. Owner gets his wife on the phone immediately and hands me the phone. She informs me that she has been ignoring calls ending in 34 as she's being hassled by a number???!!! More excuses and reasons for why she can't answer the bloody phone, return messages or call when arranged......

It's now taken exactly 3 months from deposit payment to fitting and so we decide to give our feedback to the owner. The first thing he says that if the correct measurements were given in the first place, we wouldn't have had this delay! REALLY???!!! No apology, no explanation for the poor customer service from his wife, no comment to the lies and BS that we have been continually given.....

SO - would we recommend TAF? Hmmm, the product is great. The workmanship is great. The customer service is S**T!!

If you can put up with lies, not being able to contact them, not having calls returned, being messed about with dates etc.... go for it (y)
ETS - His wife always starts a conversation with "To be honest with you".......You know that's her cue to lie!

Ha Ha I did warn you that the wife was a total nutter but if you can get past her and her rubbish that she spouts the workmanship is very good. I did mention this to him @ Lincoln show and said he needs to get a new w secretary he would do so much better.
When we got our new van I did phone to ask him about a towbar but could not get past the Rotti so having to have type app one went to Armitages "but that's another story"

We didn't think that anybody could be that bad.....when we tried to tell him about her he just said that she can't be that bad as they are busy....Great attitude.

Caratow Dorset - heavier than the one you've bought but been around quite awhile. Did you ask either of the other companies if they'd done an Up before? Chances are they hadn't. Had ours fitted by Ken (cant remember his surname) from Warrington but he will come to you and he's old school. They should have fitted a new torsion bar Terry as the existing one on the Mii,Up and Citigo is not suitable for A frame fitting.

Hi Ken both companies have fitted UPS before ...was happy with a very substantial new cross member that Towtal fitted...They had to leave it on when they took the braking cable off or put me a new front end on ....was happy for them to do that and TAF were happy to use it as part of fitting new a frame. They had to adjust things and add another bit of framework for the new Stainless steel braking cable (Towtal used galvanised steel cable)
HAVE NO issues with TAF workmanship just the wife who needs to go on a customer relations course

Chuck her a bone that may keep her quiet
I would have liked to have shoved a bone where the sun doesn’t shine, especially after the theatrical ouch! She deserved an Oscar! :sneaky:
