Hi

In few weeks we’ll be travelling from Italy to the Black Forest in Germany via the Gotthard tunnel.

Planning to spend 2 nights in Switzerland (preferably one night before the tunnel & other at the other end side of the tunnel)

Is it correct to say that Switzerland it’s not wild camping friendly at all?

So looking for recommendations please, we’d prefer something more basic then big/massive posh campsites (if that make sense).

Also any suggestions on where best to stop and things to do/see would be very appreciated

Many thanks ☺️

If you’re in the Interlaken area forget camping Jungfrau (nice site but expensive) go a little further down the road and go to camping Breithorn, bit more basic and cheaper but more friendlier👍👍

Loved this site - lots of walks into the mountains. Check about dogs and leads but when we were there there were dogs off leads - all very well trained and walking to heel. Check the price structure as it's a few years since we were there (twice!) and the first two hours or part of were a set fee with a much smaller hourly charge after that.

Hi

I’m struggling to find this, do you have a link by any chance ?

Thanks ☺️

I second Camping Breithorn near Lauterbrunnen, lovely family run little site, we had our dog with us last September no problem. Easy walk direct from site onto the cycle path that runs the length of the valley. Beautiful waterfalls. Free bus outside to travel up and down valley should you wish.

We stayed at Camping Alpenblick which was clean and tidy and about 40%/60% tourers/semi-permanant on the eastern side of Interlaken and there was a pleasant parkland walk along the lakeside, then into town, but Interlaken was a bit like Keswick on an August Bank holiday, but on steroids !
Cafés and restaurants in the middle were quite expensive, the menus on display were predominantly in Chinese and Hindi but a wander off the beaten track found the prices a bit more bearable.

Thanks everyone so far with the suggestions, may have to slightly re route after all of your input.

It seems the west (ish) side of Switzerland it’s slightly more scenic and wild ?

Been through Switzerland many times, mainly during summer time, usually only stopped for diesel, let the dog out to P, get something to eat and then off again. But only once I stopped and stayed a night and it was at a gas station, no problems, and left early the next morning. Dont forget, once you hit Switzerland (coming or going) you have to buy the country toll but it lasts for the year (1st Jan to 31st Dec that year) regardless if your staying or just passing through.
