I have bought a plate switch and three led down lighters to change the ones with individual switches my question is do I need two live feeds to switch this is on the 12v lighting

No, why do you think you need 2?

You could have 2 if you want them on different circuits.

I am going by 240v house wireing which has only live wires going to the switch

No you have one live wire going to the switch and 5hen you have one switched wire going from switch to light fitting
The switch just opens and closes the live wire, ie... turns on and off the light

In its simplist form, house wiring only has one live feed..... The other brown/red is the switched live return to the lights.

The only time I'm aware of that you need anything more is if the switch itself has a light in it too ... it gets a bit more complicated then, but for a normal switch just 2 wires.

Also with house wiring often more complicated if there are 2 switches on he same light on a m/h it would be unusual so just switch the positive. I take it you mean on 12v not hookup mains leds

And to really complicate matters.... A 2 way switch with 3 wires of different colours. o_O
(or is that what you meant?)

Actually not that uncommon, some have a second switch at the door for at least one light for entry/exit at night.

All done thanks everyone for their input
