What is the best site for purchasing a Swiss Vignette please

We were "robbed" by people on foot with cash bags at the border. I don't know if it's cheaper to buy in advance.

Go into the office at the border and pay by card, if you pay cash with Euro you will get the change in Franks which can be a pain if just passing through.

At the borders you pay either CHF40 (which is the correct price) or €40..... so about a 15% surcharge for using Euros.

By card you'll pay the CHF40 and then what ever your bank charges you in £, about 4 million if it's after Boris gets in:LOL:

Cash is the fastest option at the border as you can manage that through the window without having to get out, there's typically one person with a money belt charging those in the "non-vignette" lane.

Don't forget you'll need one on a trailer as well, if you have one.

If you get one from the Swiss travel pass site they charge you £33 for the pass £8 admin and £20 for the delivery. Proper rip off.

If you use the app called Via it will only cost you CHF25 it's quick and simple to use plus it means no stopping at the border.

Pete

I think Via is for PSVA and not a regular vignette, not 100% sure though.

Download the Via App (Swiss flag shaped like s shield) and buy directly from that. You can do it from the Swiss website.
Then if you get stopped or asked to produce it you can go into the App on your mobile device and show them the vignette. Easy.

Just watch your speeds in Switzerland- they have a zero tolerance and 1mph over still means a fine - trust me as I got hammered last year by Officer Moritz on outskirts of Basel. The Bas&@rd!

Well spotted! I did not see his before. Looks like there are many better options available.

A couple of years back, we bought ours at a motorway service area in Germany, probably around 15 miles from the Swiss border. When we crossed into Switzerland, the border post was completely deserted with a temporary plastic chicane set up to slow you down. Don't know where we would have got one from after that ?

If just passing through, it is possible to do so without using the motorways. You do need to make sure that you approach the border on a minor road, though (leaving the motorway).

Having done a little research as going this way later in the year. Almost all Post Offices and Fuel Stations in and around Basel sell Vignettes. Also, the customs posts themselves sell them and the ticket touts on the road trying to make a few Euros. I remember the first time we went through Basel, only 5 years ago we ordered our's from the Swiss travel centre at face value and a very small postal costs. Now to my great surprise and only after it was pointed out in a previous post on this thread surcharges are showing on secondary web pages of €20.00 for the transaction fee and a further €8.00 for registered post. I will buy mine at Shell garage in Basel where we will brim before crossing over.

Basel is in Switzerland
Correct! The shell station I was referring to is in Binzen, a few K's over the boarder. I understand you can drive into Basel to purchase a Vignette without going through any customs checks. These are on the main routes crossing the Rhine.

Buy at the border. If you are going via Basle the customs people are very helpful and will direct you to the booths you have to pay at.

But what is your Maximum weight? The vignette can only be used on vehicles up to 3500kg.

My Autotrail Excel as new is 3.3 T. I've uprated it to 3.5T.

So you only need a vignette if you use the motorways, is it easy to get around avoiding them, we are only a 3500kg PVC , and German friends have offered us the use of their chalet, we will have get the location, all we know is it's one road in and out. ? Bob.

Have a look on Google or Michellin maps once you have your destination then make a decision.
