Good Afternoon All,

My wife and I are going to Como in Italy in July and want to spend some time in the Alps on our way south. I just wanted to ask if there are any passes in the Alps that should be avoided if in a motorhome, or are they all OK provided that you drive with care?
Still not sure of our exact route except that I have an overnight stop at Flims in the Alps. Looking at the "Goldfinger" Furka pass and also the San Bernadino pass as possibles to do some photography and to enjoy the scenery.
Any tips or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Worth having your brake fluid changed if its not been done for a while
Brake fluids are hygroscopic (water absorbing) which means they absorb moisture from the atmosphere under normal humidity levels.
Its not down to the amount of use or milage.
Most manufacturers recommend every two years but a lot of people don't bother to save money and under normal conditions are ok
You don't want brake fluid starting to boil have way down a mountain pass though.
I have drive some of the passes around the Dolomites and they are fine as long as you take your time and watch out for motor bikes and cyclists

We went over Splügen Pass, I would say avoid, well depending on your mh, ours is 6.7x 2.2x 2.8 (L, W, H) and I wouldn't think any bigger would be advisable. It was fine going up the Swiss side but coming down the Italian side was hard work, I even got a small scrape on the awning in the tunnel (lucky just the face plate and stopped soon as I felt it) because I met a car on the bend in the tunnel which had concrete beams supports for the roof. Had to stop to let the brakes cool down. It was an adventure and luckily survived :D
