Hi All!

Have read up on quite a few different posts but I have a problem that is as yet unsolved.

Thule Steps on our Swift had a little accident and got buckled.
We’ve straightened them out but now they won’t go down,no sound when switch is pressed.

Through the process of elimination, we’ve….

Replaced the switch which is working fine.
Checked the fuses under the bonnet and found one blown, since replaced.
Checked the relay which is fine.
Steps will come down if hooked up to an external battery & go back up when ignition is turned on so motor is working fine.
It’s the internal switch which is showing no sign of life.
Have cleaned and checked all the contacts & they all seem ok.

Would anyone be able to point me in the direction of where to look next?

Thanks in advance

Have you checked the power feed into the switch?
If so, and it's "dead" would suggest there's a break in the supply further upstream.
Don't know what distribution panel your motorhome has but our AT Frontier has a Sargent EC500 and there's a fuse in there that controls the power to the Thule step. From memory, (not in the motorhome) it's #14 but better to check your panel manual.

many thanks for the reply.

Feed for the switch also goes to the light switch next to it which works ok.
Voltage test has them both working.
Going to investigate the earths and see if there’s a loose wire somewhere next

If you're getting power to the feed side of the switch and nothing from the load side it's probably the switch that's faulty or, as you say, duff earth.
