Hi All,

We are thinking of changing our current motorhome for either a Swift 794 or 894 automatic 180bhp.
If there are any owners of these models out there, would it be possible to give me an idea of real
average MPG figures to compare the difference (if any) between the 2 models. Thanks in advance.

We have the same fiat engine and auto box in an Autotrail 8m Motorhome . We also tow a car which weighs just over a ton and we get 28 mpg towing . Never checked it without the car but I reckon it would be over 30mpg . We mainly use main roads and Motorways due to the size of our rig. We cruise at approx 60mph . The 9 speed auto box is lovely to drive.

Just through 58,000
21
Kon-Tiki Sport 599 - Ducato/Alko Chassis
2.3 160 BHP Maxi
9 Speed Auto - Run on ECO setting 90% of the time.
Weighed @ truck stop few month back @ 4,100kgs, us, clothes, food, water tank full, 40 Litres extra water,
60 litres additional fuel in gerry cans and 4.5kw P1 Generator installed in the garage.
50,000 has been here in USA @ 70+ on motorways and 60ish on other roads
Average to date is 26.8mpg
By my reverse logic I've save a fortune @ avg. £0.75p per litre vs driving in the UK/Europe.
Possible enough to cover the £10,000 shipping and motor insurance we paid.

We all think about fuel economy but if you like the layout and would prefer that bit more space of a larger van and the more powerful engine that goes with it then the extra few quid on diesel per trip is neither here or there on a 100k van. Adter all you cant take it with you and the kids will only spend it anyway, Enjoy you're travels while you can as none of us know what tomorrow will bring

Yes the 2.3 conformatic , I have a feeling with it being a 6 speed rather than 9 it will hit the economy a bit especially going down the gears on hills

Plus how much have you saved by not having to rent an RV in the States? Watched YouTube the other day and they were paying over £2k to rent for 10 days😳😳

We have the new 884 (New engine 2.2 with 9 speed auto) 27 on a dual carriageway sub 60mph, 22-23mpg once you are in traffic. On a motorway, stick it eco and cruise control and they do really well.

For 12 months renting was never an option, buying one and reselling soon went by the wayside as well, being non us buying, registering and insuring varies by state so between very complex and impossible.
You can also ship the van fully equipped, just has to "appear empty".

Yes the 12 month rental would make a dent in your savings😳😳

Was the £10k one way or return?

Ours is a Swift Kon-Tiki 588 8.1m, as shipping is per sqm the smaller the van sqm the cheaper.
€4,500 out
€3,500 return
$4,000 insurance
Both near enough 1.26 - GBP
= £10,000
You can get the current price per SQM from https://www.seabridge-tours.de/en/motorhome-shipping/usa-canada/
You need to get a full quote to find current surcharge, reviewed each Qtr.
33% when we came over May 23

It is a day or so quicker USA to Europe so presuming shorter route not Gulf Stream wind assisted.
From return quote surcharge is 35% on the return, so Van SQM x € per SQM x 35% = Total.
There's approx £500 in port & other fees as well.

Thank you for that, pretty decent MPG then, looks like the 894 is looking favourite. Are you happy with your 884?
