Looking at carthago with sv tech upgrade to 5500kg with rear air is it as good as a factory 5500kg build comments please

Factory upgrade is much cheaper and no semi-air required. I’m guessing that with the factory upgrade the torsion bars in the Alko rear axles are stronger (Higher rated). Mine is factory uprated to 5500kg. Rear axles at 1800kg each and front at 2100kg.

I think it’s about £500 as a factory upgrade whereas semi-air is around £3500, plus SV Tech’s £300 (or a bit more).

Sorry, you asked if it’s as good as semi-air. I’ve had both and I’d say yes it is in terms of ride quality. Regarding ground clearance at the rear, my last one with semi-air gained about 40mm at the rear end. Current one isn’t short of rear ground clearance. Don’t know what it would be like without the factory upgrade. The rear overhang is much shorter on current van, so not such an issue anyway.

I'm not quite understanding the question but Air makes a big difference to the ride on a Fiat. Personally I would go for Air all round so the front doesnt sink with age.

If G7UXG is correct and the factory version is an update torsion bar then the SV uprate is just going to be different. Rear air has adjustibility whereas the factory version won't. As it sounds like it's just the rear then it possibly won't be the same as the factory version as I guess that will be all around uprating.

I have uprated rear air and it works fine but comparing the 2 in your case is difficult. They will both do the job but in a different way.

When we had VB Fullair on our previous Arto, they removed one of the rear axle torsion bars to use the air more.
