After a cold spell like we have had recently,I had not been out to 'run up' or take a wee drive in our E510 Hymer. On starting (no glow plugs on these Ducato based models) it ran rough and smoked liked a tobacco research Beagle. The starting is facilitated by a single fuel injector type affair that squirts a jet of fuel into the manifold that ignites under compression/generated heat. This happens automatically at below 4 degs C (ish).Above that temperature there is the several turns of the key and gentle pressing of the throttle method. You then go into the more turns of the key and mashing the throttle method whilst swearing viciously. Then it fires and smokes heavily for a minute ....after a while it settles down and you just have to wait quite a while until the temp gauge creeps up with the speed of a heavily sedated slug. Not exactly a born optimist I start researching injector testing facilities near me,as this is often one of the issues with these engines.Air filter and fuel filter were recently changed so probably ok... I sat in front of the TV with cuppa and an old episode of 5th Gear came on....they used some injector cleaner in an old VW Corrado and the engine came to life and reinstated 7BHP to the power train.
Well....filled the tank and added some Redex fuel system cleaner, ran down to Leven beach and it has never run or started better!!
Some 'snake oils' are better than others...give it a go,what have you got to lose??
