I’m off to Morocco early next year for 3 months.
Pretty sure I’ve enough gas in the refillables. If I should run out, are there any gas men out there who could advise on whether me obtaining a local bottle/regulator, attach a bullfinch fitting the other end and supply it that way ?
If so, would I be looking at butane or propane ?
Thanks

Checkout my article in Resources - there's a section in there covering this with several suggestions, including yours.

I buy a local big bottle when I get there knowing my 2x6kg refillables won't last - they're dirt cheap - and connect it to the filler point using a Gaslow adapter hose which is designed for Calor bottles, it's the same fitting. Gaslow actually recommend you use up one of your bottles first and run the external supply through it but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Just make sure you keep one bottle turned off so that when/if you do run out you've got a backup supply. Then when ready to leave Morocco I just "donate" the bottle.

If you don't want to or can't carry an extra big bottle add a Camping Gaz adapter to the Gaslow hose. This fits the small gas bottles that are literally everywhere and I'd guess are probably old 907 Camping Gaz cylinders re-purposed. I usually buy one to use cooking outside on a gas ring that just screws into it, available in all the souks - it's what Moroccans do.

PS - when you change bottles be careful not to lose the small sealing ring inside...................................!

I’m pretty sure that my Gaslow will suffice for our stay but rather than go the Moroccan bottle route, I would only need gas to cook by as my fridge is compressor type.
We have camping gaz cooker and a few gaz canisters. If I run out of these I presume that these canisters are available in the country?

Keep the on board gas for emergency. Use the Moroccan bottles .. either get the bullfinch adapter or the one that screws into your refill point . As Terry says buy the 907 bottle . I still use mine with a Moroccan heater screwed on the top for emergencies..

Can't remember seeing Camping Gaz canisters anywhere in Morocco - that's not to say there aren't any of course, just never looked for them.

High pressure connections aren’t technically allowed in the leisure vehicle gas standards .
Strictly speaking there is actually only only one approved method.
That is a medium pressure connection incorporating an excess flow device.
It’s all in BS1949 .
Most campsites will not allow an external gas cylinder with a high pressure connection, all manufacturers of gas outlets specifically state that they aren’t suitable for use as inlets so in the event of any problems there is plenty of documented advice in the standards and codes of practice.

I have one.
Lpg connector with built in pressure adapter . Than a bullfinch connector to van. That way low pressure connector to van so it will run gas services. 👍

Plenty of people do this but it’s actually not technically allowed.

Yes, no dispute - but we're talking about Morocco here.
Unless you've been you won't understand................................!

Thanks for the help/advice.
Plan is take a 907 regulator with me. If needed, pick up a bottle locally and hook up via the bullfinch. 👍

Not official bottles but you can get 'recycled' campingaz bottles that are ridiculously cheap, some have seen better days though, this one we used for cooking on a slope. :giggle:

If you're using an external cylinder with a regulator on it, back-feeding into the bullfinch, won't that all be low pressure?

Yep and that's what you need. At the BBQ point the system is low pressure so you must never connect a bottle to it without a regulator.

Not sure I'm clear on this - if push came to shove and I needed the gas, can I attach an external supply to the BBQ outlet (presumably with a suitable regulator between bottle and outlet)? Yes or no?

Thanks Pete.
I wasn’t very clear in my post.
Ive only got the small portable gas stoves which need the little canisters that fit into them.
Thanks for responding anyway.

Yes!
Just make sure you've got the necessary connector to attach to the BBQ point and a length of tubing to join the regulator and connector. Don't have a BBQ point so don't really know how it works.
In all honesty Moroccans are so practical that you only have to ask someone, maybe the campsite "guardian", and they'll sort you out. Not saying it will meet BS standards but it will work!

Yes you can connect the way you say via your bbq point to a bottle with a regulator
the campsite I stayed on in Austria 3years ago connected our motorhome via the bbq point to their mains gas via a regulator at the pitch bollard that also had your water and electric
it was like that for nearly 3 weeks and we needed it at -15C
