Given our fondness for rather small vans, clothes-hanging space is often in short supply, and I've always fancied hanging (e.g. wet coats or drying clothes) in the bathroom, especially when staying on sites where we don't need our own on-board facilities. (Otherwise it would make going to the loo a bit like trying to get to Narnia. 🙂)

However, neither of our vans have had any facilities for this. The bathrooms are smooth plastic enclosures with no hooks, rails etc, presumably because the manufactures don't want to drill holes (for understandable reasons).

So I was wondering if anyone had any cunning but non-destructive ways of doing this? I'm wondering about a telescopic rail with suction cups on the ends. Or hooks with good suction cups? Or even something floor-standing but very compact when folded?

Ideas most welcome!

When we hired a van for the second time (with a view to buying ours!) we bought an expandable shower curtain - I did have to cut it down slightly but it worked well.

It doesn’t work in our current van so we have a hanging line we can attach to hooks we’ve fitted at opposite corners of the bathroom.

This is what I use - I have a couple over the rear bed so that stuff can be hung there during the day out of the way but you can easily use them in the shower enclosure, or with your van across the back just in front of the rear doors. Once they are tensioned they don't move.

You can get them in various sizes, the below is just an example of what's available but you can probably get what you want cheaper from The Range, B&M etc.

Thanks all, those both look good.

I wondered about whether the command strips would stick well in a warm moist atmosphere, but those hooks look good.
And I also thought about the spring-loaded rails but thought they might put too much pressure on the sides of the compartment. So it's good to hear that people are using both successfully!

Thanks a helpful reminder if something I forgot about for our new to us van

Ikea do plastic hooks with a suction backing that is used in ours, easy to take off and non marking Ideal for hanging wet coats etc

If I had more money than I do, I would buy a hundred of those command-strip hooks, for all the campsites where they don't have enough hooks in the showers. You could do a favour to the campers who come after you, and leave the world a better place than you found it. :giggle:

We use an extending rod in the shower enclosure. Fits perfectly and allow the hanging of too many additional clothes.

Keep a plastic overdoor hook in your shower bag.

We've had Command hooks in our shower for 6 years and they've not moved, hooks are used to hang our towels and wet coats on.

We use a bendy shower rail around the cubical for a shower curtain (helps keep contents dry).
But then with some spare rail hooks we've fixed pegs - so can peg stuff from the rail....

Does that require the mozzy screen to be left open when in the hangers in use?
Mike.
No you can use screens but we never do on any roof light except to keep sun out.
Actually when the bar isn't being used you can use the fly screen but when stuff is being hung from the bar then you won't be able to shut the screen.

Another thing to consider with a small bar like that is that you really need some lightweight coat/trouser hangers as you can then put the items on them and hook them over the bar so you can hang more than one item and put them on/take them off easily.

I tried Command hooks found then useless, I bought ones with a 9kg rating they fell off after 3 weeks with a 1kg towel hanging on them.

Luckily have a purpose made one in our van but I use those extension bars for all sorts.

This thread reminds of a film in which Cary Grant was taking a shower in his suit.

When asked if he often showered in a suit, the reply was - "Only the drip-dry ones"

Boom Boom

Two large suction cups, the ones used for caravan awning poles and a piece of polypipe cut to fit. Very lightweigh and works perfectly and supports a decent amount of weight without flexing.
We used one in our caravan for years.20241208_164005.webp20241208_163953.webp

It depends on the material they are stuck to, if its quality wipe clean super waterproof stuff then they will fail but solid hard plastic and it should stick.
I'm my lodge (posh static) I cant use command type stuff as all the wall boards are wipe clean/non stick, wont even hold the command strip on the wall let alone a hook 🤣
