With cyber weekend being upon us I thought I might treat myself to a new tv for the MH.
I don't think there's going to be too many bargains but worth a look.
Ideally 2 x usb, 2 x hdmi, 19", 1080 resolution and not bothered about dvd. I've obviously found the Avtex models but are there others that I should consider?
Thank you.

I bought a 19" Avtex this year complete with their excellent sound bar to replace my 8 years old Avtex.
Very nice it is too, but the £500 cost will buy you at least two of the opposition's offerings!
The recommendations will be along in a minute...
John
Hi.
I am hanging my nose over the " All singing, all dancing Avtex " It seems to have everything as standard, all in the same unit. Have to get SIL to look into " Amazon de, or Spains version because of import tax. Had Avtex for a few years now, ever since my Thompson 10" 240/12volt Oblong lump ran out of a parts providor. ( Local TV/Leccy shop had a contract with a big c/van park near Skeggy and they used this model in their lets at the time. RESULT !! Even " Better " than Falling off a lorry. 🚛 (y) )

If you install an inverter there are loads of cheap 230v smart TV and sound bar's

Might not even need an inverter. Many domestic Smart TVs run on 19vDC anyway and come with a 240vAC to DC converter. They will run off a 12v MoHo supply with a 12v to 19v step up power supply often sold to power laptops from car ciggy sockets. LG have a good range of suitable Smart TVs.

Well I certainly wouldn’t buy an Avtex because they are hugely overrated and overpriced in my opinion.

Sorry John Barrett

We bought an Avtex last year and the almost 180 degree viewing angle without losing the picture quality did it for us. (y)
The cheap TV we had before lost quality beyond 45 degrees

I'm happy with our 19" Cello coupled to a Sony Bluetooth speaker £200 the pair

As mentioned above - get a 'normal' house TV which has an external transformer. Normally they run on 19V. You can get a 12V-19V transformer and simply plug into your 12V.

This video explains it all nicely...

I’d get a decent tv for a good picture and whack a firestick in the back…. Job done…😎

We bought a 19 inch Cello, use a Firestick with it, more than happy with it.

Well I couldn’t justify the price of an Avtex and couldn’t see any deals, apart from Amazon saying it was the best price in the last 30 days! The YouTube video was a great eye opener but couldn’t find any suitable tv’s. I had a good look at a Unispecta and then went for the middle ground and bought a Sniper 19”. Our Pilote has a cupboard for the tv and that greatly limited my choice because of size. I could of bought bigger and mounted elsewhere but like the fact when not in use, it’s hidden away.

I had a poor experience with Avtex. It was a couple years ago so guess they should be better now, but the picture quality was terrible . So much so I couldn’t get it anywhere near acceptable and usually TVs aren’t too far off straight out of the box. To be fair they refunded us after showing them comparison pictures and explaining the issues. The Avtex sound bar was excellent mind. I then bought a much cheaper Cello smart TV which at the time had far better connectivity, and a better picture but it’s sound isn’t very good, but that’s easier to sort than a poor picture.

We have had 2 different Avtex and a Cello.

The sound in both is pants but we solved that by using our Bose mini with it (haven’t gone down the Soundbar route yet). The picture on the Avtex was far superior to the Cello and is more robust (heavy) which I guess is a positive in a constantly moving vehicle, the cello was bought a while ago so they may have improved their picture quality since?!

Our latest Avtex went pop on our latest trip and after lots of research we have gone for the Sharp 12v this time which is a little more than the Cello but a lot less than Avtex and had very positive reviews in the couple of places I looked. It’s being delivered today, so hopefully I can give some honest feedback later or in the morning.

I have had a string of Avtex TV‘s and a month or so ago l purchased the latest 24” model but l am having nothing but trouble with trying to get it to start u.
l am now going to replace it with a Sharp, looks absolutely fine with good reviews and appears not to need the additional cost of a Sound Bar.It’s got three HDMI ports + USBs etc.

Just back from a trip, don’t watch a lot of tv but at this time of year with the rain coming down we had little else to do 😉, however we had trouble getting the viewing angle right so both of us could watch the tv , either one of us could only shadows no matter how we positioned it, more so if it was a scene with a dark background. It’s an Avtex with lots of features but the viewing angle is an issue , will have a look at the alternative recommendations already suggested.

Are the domestic products ok coping with the vibration in a motorhome? Not to say the Avtex TV's are any more robust. More in hope than expectation

That’s the Sharp we’ve had delivered today. Once Dave has fitted it to the bracket I will be able to give some feedback. The reviews are certainly good for it.

Does it have a Coaxial socket for sound output ( not the TV Ariel coax) . Only ask as I use Coaxial output to external amplifier to play sound through the rear speakers in the van which gives a really good quality sound output. Thanks.

I have the Sharp, got rid of an Avtex, much better picture and sound but is slow on start up so just be patient! With a sound bar even better! The sound output socket I use is the headphone one 3.5mm No idea for coax for speakers but has ( reading from left to right at the rear, 12/24V in ethernet, HDMI 1 Video, L and R sat in, RF in. optical and up the side HDMI2, USB x 2 earphones and YPbPrn ) Hope that helps!

we are also looking for a new TV but the space where it is mounted is limited. Our current 22” fits OK but not sure if 24” will it.

Is it possible to post the actual dimensions ie length and height? The 24” diagonal measurement doesn’t really help.

We don't watch our 21inch LG on the move, but no problems over 2 years with it in the motorhome. Are Avtex not standard OEM base TVs with a transformer added by Avtex?

Will do but it will be tomorrow.

The Optical input is the best way to connect a Sound Bar.

The valves on my 1962 Pye tv are wearing out and one of the bakelite tuning knobs needs replacing. Any ideas where I can get these. I’ve got a spare roundpin plug if anybody wants one. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO::rofl:

That’s great thanks , I think I can use the optical to maintain the quality of the sound, thanks .
