Now I've got your attention! :groan:. SWMBO and I have never been to Suffolk and really fancy a trip there. We've seen a program about the Shotley Peninsular and it looks lovely. It does however suggest that the roads are narrow and winding. Is this a good area to break our Suffolk duck and if not, are there better alternatives?
Also, is the area friendly to mohomers or is it a bit standoffish and unwelcoming to motor-homers a bit like parts of North Yorkshire?

Not many virgins around this part of Suffolk that I know of.

Suffolk is rural, therefore roads are often narrow and winding. You are likely to come across farm vehicles and the very large trucks that deliver to farms are using the same narrow lanes which were originally for horse drawn traffic.
Having said that it is a lovely county and the people are friendly and helpful. Good old country folk. (We moved here from Kent 13 yrs ago and love it)
Plenty of sites and CL's/CS's around.

Richard.

Aldeburgh and Thorpeness is a must. But check if you can still park Motorhomes down by the marina.

Right, late August, early September off to Aldeburgh or thereabouts.
Having spent the last three months in France with narrow roads and thundering trucks, I'm prepared.
Thanks for the advice.

If you want to avoid the narrow roads on Shotley, an option could be to park at Felixstowe.
Large free car park at Languard Fort, foot ferry goes from here to Shotley, you can take cycles, and enjoy Shotley on foot or cycle.
There is also a foot ferry to Harwich

Aldeburgh will be heaving in August, but if you get there early there is motorhome parking at Slaughden Quay, (free maximum 18hr stay no sleeping) just by the yacht club, beach is stones, nice small town, or walk to the Martello Tower, or along the footpath to Snape , or you can park at Snape Maltings ,big grass car park.

Other places ,if you want the beach, Sizewell next to the nuclear power station, good beach for dog walking huge car park all day parking £1.

Walberswick pretty seaside village with pubs, nice sandy dog friendly beach, and foot ferry (,rowing boat), across to Southwold.Large car park £3 day
Southwold best avoided, as parking is always difficult, but there is a campsite just across the road from the beach,at the harbour end, nice walk to town, plenty of pubs and shops.

Woodbridge, nice old town river Deben area very pretty plenty of campsites.
Come and enjoy beautiful Suffolk.

@Phileas Dog-thanks for all the suggestions. Greatly appreciated. Will start dome serious planning.

The Vulcan Arms at Sizewell has a small camping field. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2...4!1s0Ht7rBZvK4AdlSjSXTbInQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656
Shotley is ok to drive to unless your very nervous, I would certainly drive the RV there, although parking it might be a bit of a problem. :)
There's two carparks at Landguard Fort, the one which overlooks the river is really only for cars, the one before in front of the fort will be ok, but remember buses go around it.

Southwold is fine for parking outside of school holidays and weekends and a bit challenging during those times. Just be prepared to walk a bit further.

We love Suffolk! We’ve stayed at The Vulcan Arms and we really like it. It’s right on the beach and the food is good in the pub.

We cycled through the woods to Aldeburgh from there. Aldeburgh is a lovely place. We also like Southwold and Walberswick.

Shotley is a bit of a dead end place! It’s okay to park up and watch the yachts and the container ships fight for water but that’s really all there is to do. There’s a pub down the road to Shotley, which is on the banks of The Orwell at Pin Mill called The Butt and Oyster. Great place for a pint or a meal but don’t take the MH there. Find somewhere to park and walk down.

Woodborough is worth a visit and we’ve had a cheeky night in the pub carpark for the Ramsholt Inn. The pub is on the banks of the river Deben a wonderful, pretty river which is quiet and beautiful.

Whilst I agree with much of the above that the villages along the Suffolk Coast are great don't ignore the west of the County.

Bury St Edmunds with it's ruined Abbey and the fantastic Abbey Gardens is well worth a visit.

If you are interested in horses or horse racing then Newmarket is the place - National Stud and the National Horse Racing Museum.

Lavenham, with it's Elizabethan / Tudor houses is very pretty.

PS - Roads are better over this way as well.
