Is the awning rolled out or in - i.e. is it stuck extended or in its cassette….?

I thought we had a rule not to mock spelling? Though if I post before I correct all the predictive text nonsense I always have to re-edit!

Our wind out awning catches too Ian Bosman … you need to stand on a step to see where it’s catching. Also a bit of ‘shoogling’ often helps.

A temporary fix is to push the front rail back close to where it should be whilst allowing the awning material to hang loose. Then hand roll the folded material back to the box and zip tie around the whole thing to hold it in place - many zip ties. That way nothing is damaged and the gears can be easily replaced later.

Yes, sounds very much like it…….., but definitely fixable. Have a look on the Dometic website for a breakdown of the parts you’ll need for your particular awning. (y)

thanks to all for the suggestions.I have sorted it. I turns out that the canopy was rolled up the wrong way, that is it was rolled up such that the canopy was unfurling off the top of the roller which I remembered from my old van. The thing is never unroll the candy fully allowing you to roll up the wrong way round. The canopy pulls the outer "lead rail"such that it pulls it into the cassette to latch it in place closed which does not happen if it is pulling from the top of the roller I was able to do this by pulling the lead rail out of the cassette at the end furtherest from the winding handle and hen doing ditto at the winding end. This released it such that I could the unwind it fully to allow the canopy to be wound up with the canopy going off the bottom of the roller, Simple really. This gave me the opportunity to sort out the legs which were only partially attached at one end. Lord knows what the previous owner had been doing. The label inside the cassette refers to it being a Prostor but on the lead rail it says Dometic. It is actually a Dometic/Prostor model no. PW1000 The width is 4 metre thus needing a centre rafter but it is no longer available as a spare so I have ordered a Fiamma rafter and will modify it when I get it to fit.
Reminds me what is th reason for a centre rafter anyway?

in the cassette
You will see from reply that i have fixed it (but not my typing!)What if did (omitted being my reply) is to untollas much of the canopy within the cassette such that I could pull out the lease rail so that it was possible to see that the canopy was rolled up from the top which i new to be incorrect from an earlier issue with my previous van. You do this by trial and error to unfurl the canopy (if the grearbox is broken it will win endlessly either way but if it fully wound on the roller foot scan unroll within the cassette a limited fashion. Anyway, the thing is never fully unwind the canopy to the point where the joint of canopy and roller is visible, if you do please remember to roll it up under the roller not over.O i had to repair one leg attachment the outer end having the retaining pin missing, and took care to get the end piece properly engaged withe lead rail. Parts of the assembly are plastic and other parts metals the care not to damage the plastic bits
