We have messed up our return dates from Spain and are sailing on 6th April - the day before Good Friday! We normally avoid travelling anywhere near Easter but messed up this year! Normally stay at Haro camp site but they are not answering the phone and online booking seems to have a min of 3 day stay. Any suggestions welcome - would prefer a site as we have a trailer and have concerns parking on a Aire with it.

Cabarceno (elephant park) plenty of space to park, although the aire services were no more when we were there last year. It's a great place to stay for a few days, before or after the boat crossing. Approx 40 mins from Santander.

Another vote for Cabarcano and you can watch the elephants being fed at the adjacent wildlife park. The park itself is worth a day's visit. You can drive through it in the motorhome and they have cable cars as well that you can use. Not sure about the cost now though. BUT my guess is that it and the Aire will be very busy over Easter, which is the traditional first days out after winter for Spanish families.

We have been through a few times with the RV, it takes all day, and more to see the place. Fabulous! The cost last June was approx e58 for us two pensioners, and that includes the cable cars. If anyone does go, do not miss the twice a day birds of prey demonstration. It's amazing!

Riaza campsite is okay, about 50miles north of Madrid and just a few miles off the A1, it’s also an ACSI site but you need to check the dates with it being Easter. Large drive through pitches and we have left a car trailer on quite often .

Yesterday I managed to book 2 nights (1st-2nd April) at Camping Haro using their website. At first it said not available for your selected dates so I tried the 1st,- 5th April which it accepted as available so I tried again this time reducing the dates by one day. Still showed available so I carried on dropping a day untill it showed the 2 nights I originally wanted to book as available. How their system works is certainly strange.

The camper park at Santillana del Mar is less than half an hour (18 miles) from Santander. There is a supermarket on the way in and the site is right next to the village. It is secure, inexpensive (circa €12 from memory), there are toilets and it is secure. The village itself is a bit of a foodie destination and so lots of good restaurants, plus its a pretty place (see below).

There used to be an another site there, but this was closed last year. This is the one we used:
