Just started!
I don't have much detail other than what appears in the picture - According to DVLA it's Peugeot.

This might have already have been posted to this forum.

Latest updated from locals CCTV in the area, it was taken off their drive between 22.00 and 22.30 hrs on the 23/11/22. It was followed out of village by a white car which was probably used to get the thieves there. That’s all I know at present. I’ve shared it on as many Motorhome forums I can. All the best.

How did they start it without the keys?
Why didn't the alarm go off?
How did they know it had no other anti theft precautions?
How do we stop it happening to others without fitting a whole selection of other anti theft devises?

Judging by your user name you already know the answers 🤣

Keys - No problem, not required for the professional thief.
Alarm - Good question. Was an alarm fitted ? Was it activated ?
Other anti theft items - Who knows what, if any, they had fitted.
Stopping others being stolen - I'm afraid we all need a good varied selection of devices.

As with all anti-theft devices, all you can do is make your item harder to steal than your neighbours.
If the professional thief wants yours, there is very little you can do about it.

An elderly couple who own it are in bits and it would be great to get it back to them.

My motorhome is disabled & I've removed the driver's seat :LOL::LOL: I removed the seat to do some work on the leisure battery beneath but left it out :)

Surely a kill switch between the starter?

Its a sad state of affairs, but if they want it badly enough they will have it one way or another.

Its like having a big pile of cash sat on your driveway.

I wonder if there are any webcams at the Fishguard port? It's quite distinctive - dark coloured cab, satellite unit on the roof & Peugeot.

You have obviously never travelled on a Nepalese 'Chicken bus'!

A drivers seat is a optional extra.
The drivers normally sit on a wooden crate, as it permits more cargo to be carried.

Have just had a break-in to my van on Boxing Day - ludicrous really as it doesn't even look high tech or expensive.

Had parked it late on December 10 about 150m round a corner from my door (in a non allocated/sense-of-allocation space), and had been in and out several days X multiple times to clean it and also to clean/adjust child's bicycle present for Xmas which I had to keep there to avoid him spotting it.

Then on the 27th, neighbours were round to tell me it had been opened. The child had fortunately received his bike safely on Xmas Day!

They came in through a large window, breaking 3 of the 4 catches. They opened every cupboard and wardrobe, threw things around the place and then bizarrely tore the insect screen down from the door and placed it folded up on a seat?!

There was no attempt to start the van and no other damage - they left a DVD player with DVDs and didn't take the 12 cans of beer sitting beside the kitchen.... and I have subsequently enjoyed them!

I reported it because the neighbour was worried that she felt my van looked 'abandoned' or something and that her house would be targeted next... despite me greeting her at her door almost every time I had gone to the van in the previous month... my neighbours are attentive for all the wrong reasons.

Has anyone a suggestion for non-installed habitation alarm that doesn't depend on Wifi or wiring up windows or doors

You could attach cheap personal alarms to windows etc... cheap enough and loud enough to attract neighbourly attention.

I'll have a look at that - didn't know about these devices! Thankyou!
They're all over ebay/amazon/pound shop.
I had/have a few used for the few days before I could get to Vanbitz to have a Strikeback fitted to my new van.

I slept in it on my drive as I couldn't get insurance for theft without an alarm.

I have a mifi device along with a neos camera. Neos can be set to send alert to app on phone if it detects sound or motion. You'd need solar but it's a handy monitoring system.

I hope someone can find the stolen motor home for the elderly couple, I can imagine how distraught they must feel, so fingers crossed for them.🤞
I did nearly the same Langtoftlad
I postponed picking up our new van for a month(all of Sept), as that the earliest I could get it into Vanbitz for The Growler & Tracker, which The Insurance company insisted on having fitted i.e: Cat 1 alarm & active Tracker.
Silly thing is the insurance company told me the van would be insured allowing me 10 days to get the alarm & tracker done for everything except theft! o_O
Leaving most people with the only option of staying in the van on their driveway, if they have the that opportunity of course.

I know of a local couple who were going full time but had to finish work contracts and move out of their flat by a certain date, and who were sleeping and spending the remaining half of their time in the van to avoid it being targeted for theft or break in. i suppose I got away lightly compared to the OP

Why was it a silly thing to cover everything except theft for 10 days at least it allowed you to drive it somewhere to get an alarm fitted? I suppose another option would have been 10 days at a really high premium to cover the increased risk

Our current van I slept in it for 4/5 nights on the drive after importing it as insurance wouldn't cover it for theft until an alarm was fitted.

I drove my new van back from Germany and NFU cover started when I landed in the UK.
Was booked into Vanbitz for the alarm/tracker but they shut down due to the Covid restrictions.
Rang NFU and they said that’s ok just let us know when the alarm is fitted and you’re still covered.
I drove the van back in October and had the alarm fitted in June.

Those personal attack alarms are great.
I use one connected to my bike by fishing line. Instant noise.

I have previously commented on how simple it would be for 'security' on each ferry to check the vehicle reg number with the vin number displayed on the windscreen and any discrepancies resulting in the vehicle being held or impounded or the driver being photographed and their details checked. The ABI could pay for the process to operate, using a levy on their members.
Any genuine owner would be a little frustrated but would understand the delay.

It wouldn't stop all thefts but it might just make it a little bit harder, and I realise that thieves may resort to different methods, but at least it's something.

I still think the insurance companies don't care, they are happy to pay out IF they can't find a way of not paying out and they just pass on the cost to all their customers, more thefts means more people paying higher premiums, it's not a bad business model on a purely financial basis.

If a ferry company found the discrepancy you mention I cannot see that they would have the rights to act as you suggest. They would have to call the police.

The ferry company could presumably refuse boarding to that vehicle to avoid a sailing delay.

If they got it wrong in checking, e.g. because the vehicle had had and engine change so the VIN on the block was different then they could incur liability.

I think the ferry companies would consider the hassle not worth the disruption to loading plus the extra staff costs.

Also how long would it take for theives to realise and forge the vin?

Cheap non subscription trackers As well as having geofence alarms have vibration alarms. If it's set as soon as anyone is in it or attempt to get in it it can send notifications to your phone.
