We've bought a few home before now, so I know it's easier said than done. But they are becoming a serious pest, so do your best.

They are aptly named, which you'll discover if you crush one.

I think it's worth pointing out this is about one specific species of shield bug. There are lots of other species and they are harmless. The problem is some of them look very like the one in Jim's post.

We were on a site in France that was inundated with the buggers. Thing was, even though they are quite large so can't have too many places to hide, and, given that Siân is an OCD compulsive cleaner and is constantly cleaning like her life depends on it. We were finding them ONE YEAR LATER. Amazing.

We’d never experienced them until late last last year and now that I have I wish I hadn’t. How does something so big sneak through such small cracks. Even if you don’t squash them it’s a nasty smell. A bit like stale warm unwashed humans, I’m no longer paid to deal with them.

I'm glad to read that someone else's other half is OCD compulsive cleaner. I'm put out to air whilst the hoover works overtime. Mind you it can be warmer outside than in as everything than can be open is open channeling blistering cold drafts throughout home and MHome.

Our van was covered in them on a free park up we were planning on stopping on in the Dordogne in Sept last year. We moved on, but we picked up lots if hitchhikers. Thought we had got rid, but found a couple last week when removing rubber flooring in the garage. Reading this thread, im expecting to find more.

They are almost impossible to prevent getting into your motorhome and once inside they immedietly find a crevice somewhere to hide.
In SW France, autumn 2023, I was sweeping them off the fly screen before opening it but they still got in. I found they were flying behind me, landing on my back t shirt and hitching a ride to inside.
Until last summer I was finding live ones, now I only find dead ones, most recently last week.
I do hope they're not there the next time I go to the Dordogne as do like it.
Horrible critters

This thread seems to provide reasons why I should not be putting on big boy pants to get on a ferry to France ;)
