Hi all,
I have recently pitched up and went to wind out my awning (swift 597) but found the right hand side towards the rear seems to stick and does not travel evenly with the left hand side. I wound it back in and tried again but still the same and needs a little tug to get it going.
Anyone had similar problems? Any remedies at hand?

TA Steve

Sounds like you need to wind it out fully, protect your roof fabric with a large cloth and use WD40 on all the joints, pick a day when it’s dry, spray once on each joint, leave for an hour, then spray again, then leave it for another hour, then wipe the excess off the joints, wind the awning in and out 4/5 times. If the problem still persists. Take it in to a repair shop.

Silicone rather than WD40 which causes some plastics to swell (and attracts dirt).

Yeah I agree and WD40 is available as a silicon spray (WD40 Specialist Silicon) but any Penetrating silicon oil will suffice, I gave quite a lot of it and use WD40 silicon on all hinges, locks, my treadmill, cleaning upvc windows and doors. It’s especially good on my garden gate hinges and locks.

+1 Silicone oil. Available at Lidl quite often and at a good price. It's worth finding a storage spot for it on the van somewhere.

From experience never use oil based (wd40) on plastics. always use a silicon/graphite based lubricant

I had a similar issue last year, it left a crease then wouldn't wind back in properly. I was due to go to the dealer the following week for the habitation check and asked them to have a look.
I felt so stupid when I realised what I'd done. I'd rolled it out to the maximum and when I rolled it back in I'd turned the handle in the wrong direction  so it was back in its cassette 'inside out':whistle2:
