Has anyone managed to fit a step to a MAN TGE based motorhome? My habitation sliding door is on the left hand side and apparently that's where the fuel tank is located

Might be an idea to call Vanworx, Monday morning. They do lots of work with the MAN TGE and VW crafter. I think they usually put rock sliders down there and don't use a step because it might get ripped off over rugged terrain.

They will have extensive knowledge of the bottom of the van and fuel tank.

Isn't the vehicle essentially a rebadged Crafter. Might be easier to find a step for the VW?

rod_vw and Oldrat both have Crafters/Man TGEs and may be able to advise.
Sorry, I can't help as I have been advised that a LWB TGE can leave the centre of the van very low when moving over uneven ground and easily rip a step off. So not worth the risk of damaging a step and possibly the fuel tank.

Thanks CAB96

I have a 2018 Crafter with a nearside Thule retractable step.
It is very low as it can only go below the fuel tank. BTW I’m on 18” wheels.

I’m on my second step as a hump back rail crossing disposed of the first one pretty sharply. We manage OK but occasionally we come across problems, not so bad if you stay on the road, you just need to be watchful, else it’s another £500 gone.

My advice, fitting a step .. only if you get the body lifted

Thanks everyone, I understand now!
Could a running board be fitted then?

Sorry, dunno.

Perhaps have a chat with a company that has converted Crafters before..?

VW Crafter and MAN TGE are identical except for the badges. Parts bought through MAN come in a MAN box but all have VW name and part numbers on them despite MAN having their own part numbering scheme.
The good bit is that everything purchased via MAN is significantly cheaper than through VW even complete vehicles. Some VW outlets can be persuaded to match MAN parts prices occasionally.
