Starter problem

Van won't start after a long journey.

My parents' van had a similar issue. It was a 2010 Ducato. If the van had been left for an hour, it'd be fine. And it would restart after a short run. But once it'd been heat soaked on a long run, it would just crank and not fire. A replacement starter fixed it.

Van won't start after a long journey.

Not enough info and my crystal ball doesn't help.

Has this happened before?
Does the engine turn over?
If it doesn't:
Does the van have an immobiliser?
Does the dashboard light up?
Are the headlights bright?
How old is the battery?
Have you checked that the connections at the battery terminals are clean and tight?
Do you hear just a 'click' when turning the key to the Start position?

etc., etc.

Suggest letting him continue resolving his starting problem instead of spending time answering all those confusing questions?

A fair few on here have had the same. First confirm it is not the earth lead from battery to engine using a jump lead. Double check connections on the starter. The starter is another culprit but don't just replace if not needed

🤷‍♂️ If he finds those simple questions confusing there's little chance of helping so best he calls his breakdown service.

Are you parked over the top of possible under ground cables or near to a parking barrier .
If so try pushing van back a few feet , then try and start it ,
