Hi

Tried to start my Hobby Toscana today but the battery is flat.

It’s been in storage for 7 weeks, but even after a long journey it doesn’t seem to charge above 12v, so I think it’s time to change the battery and install a ‘splitter’ (?) so the solar panels charge the starter battery before the leisure

It is kept in storage so doesn’t get charged between trips, and the alarm is always on

Can anyone suggest a ‘gold standard’ battery versus a few others please? Any discount codes available?

Thanks Russ

Just bought one from Tayna, it was an Enduraline 100 amp, straight swop for the original one fitted by Peugeot, around £99

Get yourself a battery master, tat will make sure your starter battery is kept topped up, provided your van is in some sunshine

that Enduraline battery is cheaper than i expected, thanks

just looked at the 'battery master'. So, the solar panel will charge the leisure battery only, and the 'master' will then charge the starter batter from the leisure battery if its needed?

the site i looked at also said that without the 'master' the cab battery is not charged when you're on hook up? Is that right? I thought everything gets charged up from a hook up?

I really don't understand all the worry over batteries... If you have a good battery fully charged it should hold its charge for more than 3months and be able to start engine. If not you have an excess drain from battery (I appreciate alarm immobaliser and tracker drain but even so)/a battery in poor condition/or engine that has issues and not easy to start. Rmbr diesels need to be prewarmed before attempting to start.

For my 2011 Peugeot Boxer, there are two battery options

Mine had the smaller of the two options

I purchased a larger Yuasa - so it's worth checking to see if there's room for a larger battery

Also, the Vanbitz Battery Master is worth looking at - discount for Funsters

No, on EHU the cab battery won't be charged, the battery charger will only charge the leisure batteries. This is why a Battery Master is a great extra. There are alternatives but the BM does the job.

I had the cab battery replaced last year and the local supplier (Plymouth Battery Store) recommend a Mutlu battery. I'd never heard of them either! :) But if you have solar and a BM I don't think you need to go for anything special in the cab battery department.

Enduraline are Tanya's own branded batteries, they appear OK for a cheap battery. Got then in the wife's & daughters cars.

To be fair, some do charge the cab battery when on EHU. It depends on the converter & what they fit. I freely admit I don't know what Hobby's policy is/was.

Some always do, mine included. Others need to be set to do so and then there are still a surprising number that require a Battery Master or similar to be added to make it happen.

It's the same with solar panels & their controllers, but at least a Battery Master solves the problem for both at once.

Good point, they are all different but I suspect the vast majority don't charge the cab battery.

as ever, thanks for the quick replies. I will go for a fairly cheap battery and a battery master

We can select vehicle battery or leisure battery charge on hook up but after fitting the battery master we leave it on leisure battery charge. I made the mistake of forgetting to put the vehicle battery on charge once and left the side lights on all weekend plus an eight year old battery didn’t help.
From using Advance Batteries at work and for my Landrovers I thought I got a good deal for a new battery. I will use Tanya next time for cost reasons.

<Broken link removed>

These are dual purpose and get good reviews, I have 3 of the Varta fitted, two as living area and one as the starter.

I put one of these in a year ago.

Seems to be doing fine. I have solar and the charger switches to the hab batt when needed. I have not had any problem keeping it charged.
