Does anyone know a relatively easy route for a new 6 AWG cable from starter battery to B2B next to EBL30. Existing one looks like 8 AWG. On Hymer ML560 2017. Only route I can see it out battery box then under chassis and back in again via leisure battery locker. I don't like the idea of external cable but may have to . Thanks

Putting it in flexible conduit would be sensible
What distance and size b2b

Could you use the existing cable between the starter and EBL30? What size B2B are you fitting?

Peter
B2B 50amps, straight line distance 1.5m but out and around if no internal route available up to 3.5m at guess

I think it's on the limits as B2B is 50amp. Hymer use part of double floor I have no access to and their run is about 1.5 to 3m.

Could you solder the new cable to the old cable and pull it through that way?

That's a thought! But potential for cable to be trapped is high and I could loose both. Wondering about a thin strong cord attached first so I could pull original back if larger diameter jammed. I'm assuming too twisty route for electricians rods.

A further question? Why do they have a 50amp fuse as standard on the cable if it is not rated that high. Is it just too close to run a 50amp B2B on a 50amp fuse?

I would have thought that if you had it in a protective conduit as mentioned above and you ran it “above” cross members using clips and cable ties it should be fine. Don’t think distance will be a problem. You could always go up to 16mm2

I'm afraid not, couldn't afford it. Renogy 50amp with MPTT I bought 18 months ago when not so informed, but due personal reasons never installed it.

The information about cabling and fuses in that Victron post, is still applicable.

I got underneath and cable in conduit from vehicle battery box to back of the van cable tied up, works a treat 30 mins job…👍🏼

You might find it worthwhile to get one of these "LIDL Drain Snakes" :-
(EXAMPLE) ===
LIDL do them every few months in their "Middle of LIDL" section @ about £4 to £5.

I have found them to be invaluable for feeding through cables and the like both in the Tardis and around the house (after grinding down the claw/hook end to a rounded-point). ... They are VERY strong and stiff-yet-flexible and LIDL do them in both 3 metre and 5 metre long versions and the "winding handle" is useful as it allows you to "twist/wind" the rounded-point to different poke-angles in order to find an easier route/path.

=======================

P.S. === Found alternative longer (7 metre) similar versions at @ nice & cheap £ 6.95 here :-

==================

PPS === I forgot to mention that I use a few wraps of "self-amalgamating tape" (like used for Sat-Dish LNB sealing) to tie the Cable to the Snake end/head as it grips-like-shit and is much less likely (compared to ordinary insulating tape) to let the cable slip off the end of the snake whilst pushing or pulling.

Thanks everyone, excellent advice, so I have a plan! The existing run appears to be 2m so on Lenny's advice that's just acceptable and easy. However I'm going to keep a watch on cable temperature and if it appears to be warming then I will take an external route in Flexi conduit using 4AWG. In the long term as a winter job when I have time I will probably do that anyway. I'm also buying one of those Flexi rods as I have other wiring tasks that would benefit.
