Hi All, As I'm off for the week on Saturday, I thought I'd have a go at erecting my standalone awning alone! After much faffing around, I finally managed to get it up (curb those thoughts! ), however, I have a conundrum, do I attach it to the motorhome before I put the poles in or should I put the poles in and get it up before I slide it through the channel on the van? Thanks.

If you are using a Kadar strip and fig 8 section then it is possible to erect the awning first. If you are sliding the awning into the van awning channel then you need to do that first then put the poles in.

Thanks Mikeco, I’ll need to slide it through the channel so thought I might have to do that first:D, just needed it confirmed!

If you have the type with 'throw over' straps you could use them instead of slotting it into the awning channel.

Ah you’ve lost me there (n), it’s a square awning with just two sectioned poles which cross over each other also the edge which you thread through has quite a lot of material between it and the actual awning

Some drive away awnings have straps which attach to the top edge of the tunnel part and the straps are then thrown over the top of the van/MH secured at the other side to keep it tight up to the vehicle, this is instead of threading the beading into a channel on the front of the fixed awning, or for those MHs which haven't got a channel at all. It also makes it easier to connect/disconnect if you like to go out in your MH regularly - you can see one of the straps has been thrown over the fixed awning here.

By far the best way, though is to use a 'figure of 8' (aka Kador strip kit) to attach to the channel in your fixed awning as it makes it much easier to attach and detach.

Thanks Minxygirl, I don't think I'll be trying it out this holiday, weather looks awful for next week :(:(:(
