Stand off

You waved at him as you thought he was driving a MH?
No, it had nothing to do with me the perfect driver (y) although I am usually the miserable old git who never waves, but on this trip I waved at every van on the A17 down to Norfolk and I felt so good :giggle: and got a few waves back (y)

Didn’t I read here about someone meeting a lady car driver on a single track lane, they both stopped he went and made a cup of tea in the back !! She sat there crying, when he went to discuss the matter she said she didn’t know how to reverse so he had to reverse her car for her!!!
I’ve done the same thing in a past life,,👍

Like I said, something happened which made the driver think it was OK for him to keep coming. Not his fault at all. Who can guess what that something was

Gina
There was a passing place which he thought you'd use but it was too small for the MH and car?

That you were unable to reverse?

Thanks for the reminder. If I ever do tow a car it would be on a trailer so I can reverse it. :)
No it wasn't just that :giggle: It was a certain driver error

Going into very remote valleys in Wales, single track, with a HGV I have reversed plenty of vehicles to a safe passing place for other people who lacked that skill, also did see plenty of people causing thousands of pounds worth of damage because they didn’t want to admit they where lacking the skill, some of the cars where so heavily damaged that they had to be removed with a low loader , 🤷🏻😩

No, it was a major error by the driver of the van, who I will now refer to as major w""""r :ROFLMAO:

It’s not Jock is it JockandRita? :giggle: :giggle:
Ha ha Dave. No, not me, as too much dangly crap on the inside of that windscreen. ;)

He gave in with my help 😉

Gina
He was obviously a Gentleman, and there aren't many of us about now these days Gina. ;)
Seriously though, he was correct not to reverse out from a minor road into a major road, without the aid of a banksman, (or bankswoman in your case ;) ).

If he wasn't authorised to be there, then the onus was rightly upon him to sort it out.
If he was authorised to be down there to make a delivery, then the onus was upon your driver to back up, toad on the back or not.
Being able to reverse when towing a trailer/toad, is a fundamental skill required of a driver. As with everything, it requires practice to get it right, but If you can't reverse it because you don't have those skills, then don't tow it.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

You had your cloaking device on?
You held out a hand to say stop, but he read it wrong?
He was in the back having a slash?
His satnav said "Go down this one way street"?
Diversion signs sent him down your road?
He was filling in his online application to the Institute of Advanced Motoring?
There is a hidden dip that you were in?
He was on the phone to his bookie?
The hitch hiker he picked up was 'paying' for the ride?
He is a Volvo driver, so therefore can't drive?
A cab elf yanked his steering wheel?
Broken steering strut?
There is a sign at the junction saying "Hot High Cholesterol Trucker Food, next left"?
He saw you and thought, 'Hmm, I like her.'?
He saw you and thought, 'Hmm, I wonder what the internal gas pipe configuration is on that motorhome. I must stop her and ask.'?
He was whistling Louis Armstrong, 'Wonderful World' and was so full of joy to all humanity, he didn't notice the potential problem?
The sun was in his eyes?

No idea.

But where’s the driver?…..or are my eyes completely gone? :ROFLMAO:
Hi.
" or are my eyes completely gone ? " WHAT ? !!!! Your ONLY worried about NOT seing the driver ? You have OBVIOUSLY missed the 50 mph sign he has collected on his Nearside mirror arm COMING DOWN THE LANE !!............. SPECSAVERS YOU. :ROFLMAO: 🚛 (y)

We had a similar incident in France I met a lorry on a narrow road between fields of ripe corn. No problem thinks I, ill just back up, but no, the frenchman who followed me was now about an inch (or 2cm) from my back bumper and was not going to reverse for anyone, he could, he just wouldn't.
There followed some heated exchanges between him and the lorry driver, in the meantime I managed to squeeze onto the edge of the field.
The lorry crept fwd until bumper to bumper with his countryman.
In the interest of anglo french relations I departed "tres vite" as they say.

Because of the location of the airfield I had no choice of route to get there. (y)
The last 1mile through Dunkeswell village is very up and down and narrow, I got stuck in my van when a tanker came down the hill from the airfield, no problem until a lady in a Range Rover came up behind me and didn’t know how to reverse and was very adamant that the tanker was in the wrong and should reserve back up the hill. In the end I shifted her car and then mine, Tanker driver was very happy, lady less so.

I always reverse on the lanes around here if it is a van or lorry as I know they need to get to where they are going more than I need to get to where I am going (y)

Gina
That’s my view too, they are working and probably on a tight schedule, whereas I am on permanent holiday 😁😁

Don't think revering a toad is like reversing a trailer.

Had a few instances like that when I was working..Sometimes got the awkward one who refused to reverse.I used to put my feet up on the dash and light a fag and remind them that I was getting paid,,,they weren't, BUSBY.😄😉

Impossible to reverse a toad as the steering geometry is all wrong and not ment to be pushed, a bit like the shopping trolly effect.
All the videos on the internet are forcing and scrubbing the tyres and doing inevertable damage to the towing gear.

But it could be if the set up was designed properly. You've never seen the driver of a Rigid +Drag jump out, unhitch, and push the trailer back. ;)

As above Steve, ie, there has to be a better way of designing the set up.
I appreciate the convenience of towing a toad, but I wouldn't be happy towing something I couldn't reverse, cos you never know when it's the only way out.

Just playing Devil's Advocate, what would happen when the Police have closed a narrow country road off immediately following an accident, and you are caught in the hold up. You are travelling solo, and the Traffic Officers asks you to reverse back down to the next junction to turn round. What's his reaction going to be, when you say that you can't reverse the outfit? ;)

Cheers,

Jock. ;)
