Hi, anyone been unfortunate enough or silly enough to get flashed by a camera traveling through Germany in their MH?
We got diverted off the sat nav route today due to a road closure, it was busy and I was looking at the sat Nav and didn’t see the camera until it was too late and got flashed!
I was really annoyed, first speeding offence in over 50 years!
45kms in a 40km zone.
Anyone had a similar problem, we’re you contacted by the DVLA here and subsequently fined and given points on your licence?

Our Garmin sat nav bleeps whenever you go over the speed limit
Better safe than sorry

Depends wether they can be bothered to get your details from the DVLA and then chase you for a fine for being 5 kph over the limit.

I was flashed near Koblenz, forward facing camera flashed straight in my face !!! Not amused, but never heard anything and I doubt you will (y)

Nothing you can do about it so I wouldn't fret. :) The laws changed recently and they can now chase you in the UK. If they do chase you then have three choices.

Ignore it - probably unwise unless you can spin it out to next April. :)

If you can afford to employ him, speak to Mr Loophole who was employed by David Beckham this week and who go him off on technicality.

Pay up - as Mr B should have. :)

We were on our way home from Dortmund earlier this year traffic horrendous and sat nav diverted us on an even worse route around Bremen, just got to the end of diversion and got flashed but to this day never heard any more about it.(y)(y)(y)(y)
Camera was also forward facing right in the eyes.

We have had a few fines come through from Germany but these have all been from German hire cars and not UK registered cars. You don't get any points just a fine. If you live in Germany and don't pay or get caught with outstanding fines when there they come down very hard on you.

The point is that your home agency (DVLA) is required to furnish your details if the country where the offence was committed requests it. Guess it depends how much of a danger they think you were.

You need to read the Beckham thread and ring Mr Fixit.

Nope..
Several times the powers that be has tried get vvarious countries ti agree to reciprocation 'cos of all the non-uk lorries etc that get flashed.
It has always been refused.
The DVLA will NOT supply details....

However..............................
Depending how you travelled to the continent you could get a fine.
Certain ferry companies will pass your details on to plod

Flashed at 45kph in a 40 I would be amazed if you heard anything

Yes actually! Law changed last year

Yes the UK has now to comply as it was changed to a 'safety ' issue & unable to get out. It still doesn't help the UK with reciprocal as everyone else puts the offence to the vehicle owner ( who has to state the driver) whereas the UK has the offence as the 'driver' alone & so will not ask fro info from countries where the owner is classed as the offender.

Appreciate the update guys

I got flashed in France early August, and so far nothing has arrived in the post - though I guess that it could take some time to get processed through the system.

Isn't there a time limit for the notification to be served (as with the Beckham loophole dodge)?

At about 45kph my speedo reads around 5kph faster than the GPS speed.

Do let us know the outcome please!

No idea - won't be the same as in the UK one I'm sure....
I've no idea either, but perhaps worth checking if worried.
Whether it's the same as U.K. or not isn't the issue, but there must surely be a time limit, perhaps a greater period for notifying foreign drivers than Nationals?

Wonder if he has given up trying to get a Knighthood

Keep a record of any info as they have 12 months to contact you under the cross border directive

As above 12 months from the date of offence.Ridiculous length of time for anyone who doesn't keep an itemised diary.

Well, a quick google has thrown up this site https://www.antai.gouv.fr/controle-automatise?lang=en which has lots of useful information, except any time limits for sending tickets to UK drivers. There's some other info around, but a lot seems to be out of date. This https://motoroffence.co.uk/travelling-abroad-beware-of-new-enforceable-motoring-fines/ is a good summary of the current situation but does not mention timescales involved.

Thanks @gus-lopez - no records to worry about. Wife said 'careful speed camera", it went flash, we carried on enjoying our holiday!

If you have a dashcam running it’s a good idea to go back through the footage and find the moment the camera flashed. That will give you an exact GPS speed at the time, as long as the camera is set to record speed.
I’ve been caught out twice by mobile camera vans at home and each time I wasn’t certain if I was under the limit or just over. Both times I found that I was just under but kept the video clip just in case I got a ticket.

Richard.

If they send you a ticket........

Remind them who won the war............

Joke that was......................

Got caught in Hungary in May by a guy with a front facing camera-I was following a car in the 50kph area and he started pulling in to stop so I overtook him at about 10 kph over just as I got to the camera. Not heard anything yet.

got flashed in my car in the Harz Mountains this year - 70k limit - flashed at 75. received letter when I got home with all the information to pay the fine of ……………………………………………………. E10.00 !!!!

cost me £8.99 for the international transfer !!!!
better paid than worrying if it will come back to haunt me next time i'm in Germany.

They take the photos from the front to prove who was driving and usually send a couple of copies of the photo with the fine notice. Many young squaddies were caught out by the system and there was usually no argument. Some tried their hand and ducked down just at the right time but their COs took a dim view of it.
