I have a Fiat Ducato Ace Sienna motorhome year 2007 which I purchased privately nearly two years ago.
It came with a spare wheel but no wheel carrier, I asked the previous owner about this and he said he had no idea about how to fit it and didnt know much about it. He only used the van for a couple of weekends away.
My question is, why do you think that one of the pervious owners took it off, to save weight or diesel consumption.
Has any other funsters removed their spare wheel, if so why.
I would like to fit it back on as I would feel safer knowing I have a spare and the small print of the breakdown company states that it requires one fitted.

If it's a Fiat chassis (not an Alko rear end) then there might be a spare carrier underneath behind the rear axle.

My old Coachbuilt MH (alko chassis rear) had the underhanging cradle a bit like this.....

There are some bolt holes there but no carrier, how can I tell whether its an Alko rear end
Fiats tend to be lighter vehicles. The chassis rails are painted. They have leaf springs.

Alko have torsion bars. The chassis is galvanized.

The vehicle may have been supplied originally with no spare, and at some point an owner has purchased a wheel, as they wished to carry a spare. So there may not be a carrier for it. That is my situation.

True had not thought of that but if so, why didnt they fit a carrier if going to the trouble of buying the spare wheel, the tyre on it is brand new

The case for me is that where the spare wheel carrier goes, I have my waste water tank fitted there by the converter. So I can’t store my spare in the standard place, the standard way. I keep planning to make a carrier elsewhere but haven’t as yet. Many many vans don’t come with a spare.
Do you have a carrier underneath? Is the carrier position available to fit the carrier?

Does make me wonder why it was taken off or if Andy is correct why they never went ahead and fitted the carrier.
So the question still stands, has any other funsters removed there spare and for what reason

There is the waste tank there, guess I need to get it up on some ramp and get the tape measure out, I know there are some screw holes on the chassis cross beam

My previous 2007 van came with no spare or carrier, just a foam inflation kit, which was about 5 years of of date by the time I got it.

No spare wheel and carrier reduces the weight ,so probably wasn't on in thx firstbolacecsnd thd last owner bought a spare. I has similar with a swift 630l and fitted a spare wheel carrier and wheel. It was fairly easy to do as all the holes wheel position was already there ,just had to buy some riv nuts.
There are some threads on fun re the fitting of thd carriers.

My last motorhome came without a spare or anywhere to put it. After experiencing a puncture abroad I decided a spare was important, so got one on ebay and just kept it under the bed. No space for a carrier anywhere
