When you are on long trips, do you take the spare keys with you. We never thought about taking them until a mate asked me the question.

While away, we each have a set of keys, and also set squirrelled away on the van which requires some dismantling to get to them if needed.

I keep a door key in the cassette bay under the sog filter.
Then you would have to damage the lock or cassette door to get it.
Shouldn't broadcast where you keep it.

We shall start taking them, we did France, the UK and Northern Spain last summer. I never even thought about taking the spares.

We take both sets and have a hidden hab key.

Last van I managed to lock both sets in the van. Lucky we were at BI, so got daughter to go to our house for the spare hab key and post it to us and spent a night on the sofa.
Always have a hidden hab key since then.

Always take both sets. And when we go out for the day make sure we have a door key each.
Same for us, SWMBO has the spare door / ignition key so we at least get in and drive away

It is a no brainer. The spare set are no use at home if keys lost in Italy, or Scotland.

Our full spare set are secreted in the MH and I carry the in use set and Basia carries a spare hab key in her wallet, which gives us access to retrieve the spare set if needed.

Never travel anywhere without a spare set.

One of those key-lock boxes secured to the chassis is handy ?

It only needs to contain the habitation door key, IF, the 'Spare' Ignition key etc. are secreted in the interior of the vehicle.

Just make sure that you remember the code.

It's worked OK for me.

Yes. Why wouldn’t you?

I lost our keys in Belgium. They must have fallen out of my pocket when I removed my handkerchief during a walk. The Belgian equivalent of the AA gained entry to the m/h where we recovered the spare keys. Without them we may have been stuck.

Fortunately, in our case, our keys were handed in to the Police the same afternoon and we collected them the next day but it could have been very awkward without the spare set.

I have a full set.

The (non driver) navigator has a hab door key and alarm fob.
There is a full set hidden in the van (which would take some finding)

We also have a 'blade' key outside the van which only gains entrance to one (alarmed) place, which means you need to know exactly where the second set is in order to switch off the alarm and then gain entrance.
