Hi all you seasoned funsters,

Crossing to Spain from Portsmouth mid March. Can any of you friendly travelers kindly inform me if it is possible to take bacon and cheese within my fridge, frozen or otherwise.
Honestly not sure if I can survive the first couple of weeks without, it will take this long to ween me onto the local fare!!
Thankyou and please be kind with your answers.

Can anyone please bring us some English cheese and a couple of pounds of best smokey, been in Spain now for 23 years, we are missing it so much (Not) all this European foodstuff is terrible, fresh vegetables and salad picked the previous day, 300 different cheese types, wine to die for...fish by the bucket full....I have to stop now, so Homesick....I do miss a good Pork pie though.....(y):cool:
when we lived in France once a month we would buy the bacon they sell in blocks 6 at a time for there cassoulet & have a bacon electric slicing day for the freezer . France has 275 different cheese the nearest to cheddar was cantel & no Cheshire cheese which we brought loads from the uk for the freezer but that's all changed since the " b "word

Phew!

It’s access to said commodity as opposed to legalities of carrying which worries me! 🤣
Morning H, what's the ruling on fishing bait re the broiles and luncheon meat etc? As its not for human consumption is it ok? Enjoy the trip!

Could always abide by the rules which are in place and enjoy the different experience of being abroad. Isn't that why we travel? IMV it's disrespectful to your host country to disregard the rules on importation of foodstuff! Embrace the differences or don't travel maybe??

Sadly not allowed as it’s meat and milk protein based. A friend is going to ‘smuggle’ some over on April for me! 😜

Lol or live life based on morals and common sense rather than blindly following every rule and law laid out by others. I embrace the culture of other countries to the max but there are a couple of things I do take along as a home comfort when away for many months. Doesn't hurt anyone in anyway way whatsoever. The rule is there for commercial reasons hence why they aren't interested in the contents of your fridge.

Rules are for suckers - just look at the current Westminster shenanigans - but don't complain if you get caught.

They may not search every vehicle, but the point is that they could if they wanted to. During the Foot and Mouth epidemic in 2001 transporting meat and meat products into France was banned. We crossed to Caen and every vehicle was searched coming off the ferry and items confiscated.

How do you go on with the fridge been off for a long period of time ,even if you froze it things would defrost in the time spent at sea , unless you are going via tunnel , we are going in April via ferry so watching this thread.

Our freezer was at 0°c by the time we arrived at Bilbao. It refroze and didn't poison us 😊

The only thing that worries me is our dog's food, as she's on a special diet.

Lol - hope you didn't have to waste too much of your day searching for / designing your high horse picture.

My comment stands. Which rules and laws are you happy for people visiting the UK to ignore?

We travelled from Portsmouth to Santander on the Galicia arriving 2 days ago. No customs checks for us but they were definitely selecting vehicles coming off the ferry.
I suppose it depends on how lucky you feel and how much you are prepared to gamble if you are the one in a thousand they decided to turn over.
It is a bit of a pain arriving late afternoon with not much in the fridge but we managed to scrape a meal together before shopping the following morning.
One word of advice to people using the Galicia, we had an inside cabin which was clean and well presented. It did not have a kettle so if like us you enjoy your tea and coffee, take your own.
We had also been led to believe that the boat was expensive, not in our view but we do live just outside London. Pint of 1664 was £3.55

Going back a few years but how about being gay? That was only legalised in 1967. Looking to the near future hopefully cannabis.

Anyone else travelled Interstate in Australia and tried taking fresh fruit and veg over the border......well its a really serious offence, and if caught doing so you can be fined severely....but responsible travelers don't do it.....we never did, we never do....
Same as flying into Oz or NZ with banned produce, get caught or failing to declare, big fine there too......when the Covid issue is no longer requirement to be checked on entry into Eurozone the checks could switch to other regulations....Happy travelling folks, stay safe....and enjoy it while we can...

Anyone know of a decent brand of powdered coffee whitener for sale in France/Spain, that comes close to the UK's brand of (Nestle Coffee Mate), we use this a lot and because of the new restrictions we cannot take any, we usually stay away for a couple of months and would normally take about 3 tins to last us out, our last trip we got some while in Gibralter, but couldn't find anything, anywhere on route their.
