Having just spent 5 weeks wandering around Spain, excluding eastern areas, it’s interesting to see their attitudes toward sites.

AIRES, in the last 15 years there has been an explosion in numbers. Local tourist boards seem to put up money for villages to bid. They virtually have all services, some with electricity, both free and paying. Idea seems to be to attract visitors into local amenities.

SITES, receptions often open 0800-2200 with arrivals between these times. Departures usually by 12.00. Many have shops and bars/restaurants which are also open to locals. When asked length of stay on one I mentioned we had friends arriving the following day and was told pick two pitches and put a chair out to reserve one, so like club sites. You could be uncomfortable with the space, or lack of, between pitches but can park anyway around on your pitch. Be prepared for interesting electrical bollards.

Will this sort of thing happen over here I wonder

I doubt it would happen here but I enjoy the informality of Spanish sites and Aires.Good value for money too. Especially if you use ACSI off season.

We've just had 130 days travelling from our home in the Murcia region of Spain, one month in the French Pyrenees and then back to the north of Spain for the next, almost four months.

We've spent most of our time on official motorhome areas, some paid, most free. A bit more of our time was free parking in areas that seemed happy to see motorhomes.

Spain isn't quite as easy to motorhome in, since our beginnings in 1998, but it's still, and getting easier in some aspects (more official places) much easier than many other countries.
