Under medical-enforced house arrest - I've been huddled in an (albeit airconned) dark cell with just a Mac for company.
Been trawling thro' threads here and poring over google earth and P4N and bookmarking others' recommendations on Google maps.

You’ve missed Girona and the Dali triangle, Valencia, and San Sebastián for the tapas.
Plus Caceres, Merida, Avila, Segovia, Toledo, the Caminito del Ray and Cadiz.

Spain has enough fabulousness for many many trips.

Depending on your interests the mostly blank area in the lower left of your map is worth a visit. This is the Extremadura which is a great place for bird watching and just getting away from the crowds. In summer it will probably be too hot but spring or autumn should be pleasant.

I think one of your flags, left of Toledo, might be on Monfragüe which is one of the best bird watching areas in Europe. There is a campsite (staying in the park overnight will have you sentenced to the galleys) where you can join an organised birding trip which I strongly recommend. Without local knowledge you won't see a fraction of what you will with a guide.

¿Por Que?
Avoid cities, generally. Valencia (some of) is on our doorstep, Girona is in a corner ...

I saw bustards and got excited, until I realised you hadn’t seen them 😂

What app/website are you using to map these please?

Not picking a fight (honest), but San Sebastián was an absolute highlight of our last trip. The bay is beautiful and food & drink to die for. I still dream about those pintxos…

You may have them flagged, but Bardenas Reales and Canfranc are worth a visit If you’re in the area.

Thanks, Canfranc flagged, Bardenas Reales visited a couple of times a few years ago. First place we saw Griffons ...

Monfrague was great. We also enjoyed the nearby via Verde.

just stay off motorways and main roads . then zig zag all over the place.
you are on an adventure .
just about every little village in spain etc will have a story to tell.
the best bits arent really the main tourist places .
try to buy a real spanish made road map much better than mitchy maps . i like mapamax in spain by grupo anaya , madrid .
have fun .
also have a compass with you .
head south you get to the med then west you get to portugal ,or at the med turn right and follow the coast back to santander etc after all its about having fun.

...which is where we live ...
nice area where you live .gone there loads of times then turn left head for peron . another nice little village . a few uk folk live there as well plus dutch folk etc .
we really do use loads of the little back roads for the adventure. even find some nice little beach places that arent on maps at all.
