I'm a newbie
Hi - we are hoping to head south from cold wet Wales to the warmth of Spain in January / February.

We love quiet rural areas, hiking in the mountains and cycling empty roads. We’re looking for peaceful campsites or aires to stay for a week or more, probably inland near the mountains in Valencia or Alicante.

Does anyone have any recommendations? We don’t really want to stay at busy coastal sites, as we prefer just a quiet, peaceful site with direct access to mountain hikes and cycle routes.

Thanks!

The trouble is not wanting coastal sites is its cooler inland with possibility of snow sometimes at 1000m 😲😀
We do a fair bit of walking / cycling, here on the Costa Blanca cycle teams from all over Europe train in winter and our weather is normally quite good. 🙂

We use either Spain Topo Maps or Wikiloc and parking anywhere a lot of the walks have parking close or nearby, if you want a campsite or camperstops just plot the area your looking to walk we go on Google maps and put a search for autocaravana parking or campsite. 😎 Bob.

Thanks Bob 😊 We used to visit the Jalon valley every February / March (staying in an apartment before we got our motorhome). So aware that it can be chilly in the mountains but usually sunny 😎

We just don’t really know where the campsites are - I’ve looked on park4night and there doesn’t seem to be many sites inland, so looking for any recommendations or experiences.

Agree with what Bob has written...however we quite often do lots of inland Walking/Biking/Climbing throughout the year...
If you get the ACSI book and discount card you can pick where you want there are some inland sites that you will appreciate.Wikiloc is you mobile phone walking and cycling guide...use it together with an handlebar Garmin for turn by turn route guidance.
Maps can be difficult to access and many have mapping flaws....inland from Alicante/Benidorm/Altea are brilliant for biking and walking....
If campsites are not your main overnight choice, check out Park4Night for the network of Camperstops....Have fun....I started exploring these areas in 1984....and still find them packed with interest..👍🇪🇦😃

We don't do that many campsites, there's a camperstop at Jalon,
Motorhome Park Xaló
As you know Jalon you have seen the cyclist 🙂 there lots of walking in that area, but even though the camperstop is only €5 a night or I think €3 just doing your services we would just park in a village near the walk and only go to do our services, because you can park anywhere as long as it doesn't have a sign prohibited autocaravana. 😎 Bob.

Jalon is a great little stop along with the Valley de Laguar campsite a few miles further inland. Both excellent for cycling.
Camping Sierra Espuna is great for walking and cycling.
Just north of Segorbe is Camping Altomira, via verde next door and great for walking/cycling.

Of course, if the OP strays into Murcia, we can advise where to go and what to do in our area. ;)

l agree with the Sierra Espuna recommendations absolutely fabulous mountain bike trails l use to do 60km a day and l am an old boy so not too taxing, excellent for walking or road cycling with the added bonus of amazin wildlife.

The OP is asking about places in the Valencia/Alicante area....of course Sierra Espuna is worth a visit...but it's not exactly anywhere near Valencia...,,😃👍🇪🇦

It’s always worth pointing out something or somewhere that meets the criteria the OP is looking for particularly if the needs are more important than the location, but thanks for the Geography lesson 🤔

Camping Altomira at Navajas just off the motorway north of Valencia would fit the bill. It’s on an old narrow gauge disused railway with safe cycling and walking. Quiet village with some interesting villas from days gone by and a restaurant on site if you want it. ACSI too

We do alot of the Via Verde cycle routes but normally just park near them, again just put Via Verde or Greenway in Google maps and off we go. 🚲

This one is from Benicassim I know there's a campsite but we never parked in it, 😉 but have a few times over the years. 😁 Bob.

I knew but never met him though l believe he has property in the area? l always moaned to myself l might add, at the design and placement of the Waste Disposal point and the little wall around it that makes it totally impractical for a sizeable MH:imoutahere:
Great stop and the people that own it are so nice, normally stay a month or so around Xmas.

This is something I am also interested in doing, it’s blooming cold in Scotland at the moment!
What would the temperature be like in Spain in Jan/Feb? Will there be campsites open?
Pocket Rocket apologies for hijacking your thread 😍

Most campsites open...and very full in places..
Temperatures much warmer than Scotland... generally cold at night, but after 11am until sundown pleasantly warm...some rainy days...cold inland...Med coast warm...lots of choice as to where to go...depends what you like...or dislike...
