Just got around to next year’s paper diary with Easter written in and I realise that I have booked the ferry to Spain for the Sunday before. A bit of panic booking to get a pet cabin…….
So I think I will have to book somewhere for the weekend.
We only have the Mon - Thursday to get to wherever from Santander, and would like a reasonable chance of decent weather and somewhere quietish so doesn’t have to be a big site. Realise will have to do a bit of a drive but after that hopefully chill over the weekend and then bimble around as we usually do.
Please recommend somewhere to me
Thanks

Sorry Riverbankannie I don’t quite understand your timetable or plans so my reply may not be as helpful. Don’t forget the Easter holiday in Spain ends on the Sunday, no BHL Easter Monday there so perhaps not such a problem but the week prior to Good Friday will likely be busy.

I can recommend Caravanning Oyambre, an ACSI site so easy to find. Beautiful site with fantastic facilities. The problem may be making contact with them now as it will be closed for the winter but would be contactable via phone or email once open. About an hours drive from the port and if you emailed them as soon as they opened it would be in the top of their inbox do you should get a reply. I’ve reserved here before at fiesta weekends.

I can also recommend Camping La Viorna at Potes but again closed for winter. Not too far away though.

The following sites are currently open, so contactable:

Camping Virgen del Mar, very close to Santander, no personal knowledge.

Also Camping Fuentes Blancas at Burgos which is easily doable from the ferry. They do take reservations but I’ve only ever been able to get a response from them by phone before. Great location but personally I feel the site facilities are poor. Fantastic city to explore and easy to get to, even on foot if you are active.

I personally go a full days drive to Camping Internacional Aranjuez which is open, excellent facilities, walk into historic city, and they will respond to any email or phone call.

Hope this helps

Actually you might well have problems all that week as the sunday "before" is Palm Sunday & when all the parades start.Well they actually start on the friday which is "Dolores de Viernes".
Here in Lorca, other towns will be similar, there are parades from the Friday, Dolores de Viernes, until Easter saturday. The Spanish, the aficianados, will be on holiday from the friday before you arrive on the sunday allweek until easter sunday. So the sites will be busy.

Thank you. We have actually stayed on the sites at Burgos, Potes and Aranjuez. I thought they may be a bit far north to be warm but of course the weather can vary. Certainly Aranjuez could still be in the cold middle as it was when we stayed there last time but a lot earlier in March.
If warm, very happy to stay in the North away from the coast so may just play it by ear as usual then.
Timetable is ferry on Palm Sunday, arriving Monday.

Thanks that is very useful.

We're usually in Spain at Easter and try to avoid coastal campsites. We've experienced Spanish Easter campsite celebrations on a couple of occasions and have no wish to experience it again 😱.
We find that aires can offer a more relaxing stay over Easter(y).
However, we did once spend Easter at the campsite at Tordesillas, and had a fantastic time.
The campsite itself was not over-boisterous and the Easter celebrations and processions in the town were fantastic.
We'd definitely stay there again.

Thanks will definitely look at that. Happy to move around aires inland if weather ok. We did go to the Fallas celebrations in Valencia one year and the firework throwing really unsettled me. That was pre-Rosie.
Edit, that position looks ideal. John does like an old building or two within easy reach for sketching and by the river too. The sort of site we would gravitate to in France.
Thanks

The free aire at Palencia, across the road from the petrol station.
We were off the ferry about 16.00 and there by 20.00

We are quite partial to Camping Las Palmeras, at Crevillent, near Elche and about 20 miles south-east of Alicante. It's almost in town, handy for the motorway and minutes walking away from a supermarket (& a Lidl at the other end of town). I think I have posted about it a few times before. It's inland and also an ACSI discount site. It is part of a hotel and restaurant complex favoured by the locals. There is an excellent motorhome service point where you can wash your van if you want - no extra charge. The loos and showers are good. We've stayed often, not least on our last nights before flying back to Bristol, leaving the van stored near the airport, when we were travelling to and fro every couple of weeks through the winter in 2018/19 & 2019/20.

Crevillent is very much a working town and the campsite is close to a relatively industrialised area, but once inside it is something of an oasis. :giggle:

On our first visit we'd travelled 239 mostly motorway miles from Aranjuez and intending to stay one night, which eventually became five because we were comfortable and the weather was good.

Looks Good. We may not make to to Murcia this time around as there is much of western and Southern Spain we have not explored. Have bookmarked it though on my google maps plan.
